Really Easy Reed Diffusers

Reed diffusers are lovely additions to your home. Not only do they provide a wonderful, long lasting scent but you can place them just about anywhere. Reed diffusers are perfect for small spaces, like bathrooms or guest rooms. My favorite part – you can re-use any kind of glass bottle that you may have around your house! I didn’t realize how easy they were to make until Mandi brought them to my attention!  You can also try your hand at DIY Spray Odor ObliteratorBathroom Refresher, or these awesome Toilet Bombs!

What you’ll need:
What you’ll do:
  1. Add the liquids to the glass container, stir well with one of the sticks.
  2. Once combined, drop in your desired amount of essential oils. Stir again.
  3. Place reeds into glass container, and allow to absorb some of the liquids.
  4. After about an hour, flip them over.
  5. Turn the reeds over every 5 days, to encourage the smell to waft through your space.
  6. Refill as needed with additional carrier and essential oils.

Plant Therapy Reed Diffusers DIY

To gift this idea simply blend your essential oils in a 5ml bottle. Package the skewers and bottle separately and include instructions above, have your recipient add the blend to the olive oil and they can “make” the gift themselves. A great DIY to share as a gift for your neighbors or for that holiday party as a hostess gift!

  1. Made one today with Pumpkin Pie and Orange Spice, oh wow, amazing! I added a few more sticks- 8 total, and it helped make the scent a little stronger. Wondering though, what can be used in place of vodka? Just plain ol 99% alcohol?

  2. I love this idea! I’ve tried it with alcohol in the past but i didn’t have good results. I can’t wait to try it this way. Hopefully it will work better!

  3. Would love to try this. Since people here said that it doesn’t release that much scent does that mean that I have to add more oils to it?

    1. I would start off with the recommended amount of EOs first, to see how that works for you. You can also try to turn the reeds upside to allow the soaked side to be exposed to get more of that scent to come through

  4. Just made 3 of these. 2 have a narrow top as recommended and one does not so I am curious to see how the evaporation rate varies. I can’t wait to see how they preform. I will come back and report after a few weeks!

  5. I really want this to work, but mine hardly gives off any scent. It’s been 3 days and I can only smell it if I stick my nose right next to it. I added 50 drops of Holiday synergy. I used witch hazel instead of vodka, so maybe that’s the problem? Any ideas appreciated! Thanks!
