Organic Sandalwood — DIY Shaving Cream

By: Kimberly Daun, Certified Aromatherapist

Organic Sandalwood has a woody, calming scent that helps to reduce nervous tension.

When applied topically, it can help reduce oiliness and cool and soothe the skin.  These properties make it a fabulous addition to shaving cream.

What you’ll need:
What you’ll do:
  1. Measure ingredients.
  2. Whip Shea butter, Coconut oil, and Sunflower oil until light and fluffy. This lasts about 5 minutes; I prefer not to melt soft butters because they can easily overheat and become grainy.
  3. Add essential oils and mix for an additional minute.
  4. Store in an airtight container.

  • I have been making this shave cream a lot. I just use Soft Skin Syngery in it and different carrier oils. I found it much easier to make if I melted the ingredients in my candy warmer and then stuck it in the fridge to harden back up some. The time in the fridge varies with the carrier oil I use. I followed a process from a whipped body butter recipe. Once it has hardened some I whip it up. If it still is liquidy I put it back in the fridge some more. If not I whip it up really good so that it’s fluffy. I then put it in the fridge to harden up a bit again. When I pull it out I whip it up one last time and add my essential oils. I’ve been happy with the outcome everytime.

I haven’t used commercial shave cream/gel in about 5 months. The consistency is more of a butter and I shave my legs in the tub so the oils disperse in the water and make my skin so soft. I also use it like a shower lotion. I rub it on my skin and leave it for a minute then rinse.
