.Lavender essential oil is one of the most popular oils used in the world because of its numerous benefits for the body and mind. Many cultures throughout history have incorporated Lavender into their lifestyles, including the ancient Egyptians who used it as a perfume and part of religious ceremonies and the mummification process. Reports claim the faint smell of 3000-year-old lavender even wafted out of King Tutt’s tomb when archeologists opened it in 1923!
In the modern era, lavender essential oils are incredibly popular for aromatherapy purposes that focus on relaxation and stress relief. Lavender is frequently used by people who are just starting to explore the benefits of essential oils. But the world would be missing out on all this versatile oil has to offer if we only used it as a pleasant aroma to de-stress. If you love lavender and want to learn more, check our list of the top ways it can benefit you:
Soothe a Sunburn with Lavender
After a long day in the sun, use Lavender oil to help soothe skin from over exposure to UV rays. Add 9-18 drops to an ounce of cooling aloe jelly (not gel) and apply it to your skin for quick relief.
Using Lavender to Aid with Sleep
Lavender oil is one of the best choices for use in the bedroom when you want to promote a restful night’s sleep. Diffuse during bedtime and use Lavender Organic Hydrosol as a refreshing spray for your pillows and bedding. If you enjoy an evening bath, add 9 drops to an ounce of our Unscented Castile Soap and mix into warm bath water. This will help to soak away the stress of the day and put yourself in the mood for great sleep.
Lavender can Promote Respiratory Health
You can use Lavender oil in a steam treatment to help open congested sinus by adding two drops to boiling water. Use 9 drops of Lavender in 2 tablespoons of your favorite carrier oil and apply around the neck to ease sinus pressure and promote feelings of clear breathing.
Did you know Lavender can Repel Insects?
Believe it or not, most insects don’t like the smell of Lavender. Diffuse it around windows and doors to prevent insects from flying in. Or use it on the skin as a safe alternative to bug repellents.
Use Lavender to Promote a Clear Complexion
Lavender has powerful cleansing properties that can eliminate the oils that cause blemishes while improving your complexion. Just add 3 drops to 10 mL of our Near Perfection Carrier Oil for a fresh, clean face. It can also soothe irritated skin associated with the season or environment when added to a carrier oil.
Deodorize with a Lavender Hydrosol
Lavender has the power to quickly zap bad smells! Use it on anything around the house that tends to develop less-than-pleasant odors. Add it in a load of smelly laundry, athletic shoes, the bathroom, or anywhere that needs strong deodorizing power.
Final Thoughts on Lavender Essential Oil
In addition to the uses and benefits mentioned here, Lavender essential oil can be used for just about anything you want. Don’t limit yourself with this versatile oil. Try it out in your home and develop unique ways to incorporate it into your lifestyle. This great alternative to synthetic products packs just as much power to clean, freshen, and deodorize as store-bought brands. However you choose to use it, Lavender can really benefit your lifestyle. So try to always have some on hand for whatever life throws at you.
I did not know that lavender could be used as an insect repellent! So glad to find this out. I’ll be adding it to my insect repellent spray from now on.
I love Lavender fine mixed with aloe vera jelly for sunburns. We live by the ocean and I am very fair skinned so this helps tremendously.
I am not a huge fan of lavender, however, PT’s Fine Lavender is simply lovely.
I would love to give the Lavender Fine a try… as well as the hydrosol. How can you go wrong with lavender?
It´s so great for skin care! Love to add it to my face serum.
I applied a mixture of 2-3 drops of lavender with about 1 tsp of arnica carrier oil to my husband who has a bad bruise and cut on his upper arm. I put it on about 2 days after he hurt himself (he didn’t tell me right away). After using it once a day for two days the wound is healing very well, and the arnica oil is helping the bruising. I was surprised how fast the lavender helped the wound to heal, esp. since I didn’t apply it right away.
Lavender is now a must have at all time oil in my household. I diffuse it everyday in my son’s room to aid him to sleep better. He’s now well rested and i notice that he has more appetite for solid food ever since I started using essential oils around him. Even his day nap he sleeps for 2 hours sometimes I had to wake hum up but he still sleeps for 11 hours at night. I’m relieved that he’s well rested.
My love of lavender is what brought me to essential oils, and now my love of Plant Therapy as my supplier for all oils and accessories is what keeps me here!
Among all other essential oils I like scent of lavender the most.
Thanks for pointing out the benefits of using lavender essential oil. I am trying to find certified organic french lavender oil to use in my home. I think that it would be really good for helping my kids get to sleep on time.
This article has convinced me that lavender is one of the few oils I need to take on vacation this month. Sunburn relief, insect repellent, helping with sleep in a different place, deodorizing the air in our rental; all great reasons to travel with this oil.
I love lavender and this post makes me love it even more.
I’m going to have to see if diffusing lavender will calm my dogs during storms. They get so frightened.
I saw the dog whisperer rub it on the dogs fur around their neck where they can’t lick but he says to put it on before they get anxious so they don’t get to thinking that the scent brings anxiety
Thank you for these blog posts. I love lavender, but haven’t used it to it full capability. This helps so much!
Lavender is a must have in my essential oil collection!
As many others have said- I love lavendar! It is so versatile and easy to use. Although it was not the first oil I purchased, once I got it I have never let myself run out. I also recommend it to anyone looking to get into oils. I have very sensitive skin and it is soothing when mixed with lotion. I have also used it on burns, cuts, scrapes, acne, and other irritants to soothe and calm and heal. I can’t say enough good things about it!
Lavender is my all time favorite scent anyway but I love that it so good for skin issues, I have psoriasis and I use it with tea tree and frankincense in coconut oil on breakouts it works wonders. Also cleared up my sisters eczema
I use a couple drops of organic lavender with a couple drops of the Christmas tree blend from last holiday season in my diffuser necklace or in my diffuser in my bedroom! Its light and crisp and soothing! I find it really helps with my BPPV Vertigo!
Definitely very versatile. I personally use it for burns and skin irritation, as well as diffused with other oils at night.
Lavender is my go to for so many things, diffusing at bedtime, lip balms, and body butters. Lavender is just so good for everything
I love lavender and its always a oil in my diffuser. I made my own blend of lavender, lemon, and peppermint which I know is an excellent blend for my allergies, I diffuse this every night making it much easier to start my diffuser.
Isn’t it great for allergies? The scent of the blend is one of my favorites
I don’t know what I’d do without it. I use it daily to calm skin inflammation and at night to help me sleep. It is indispensable!
I just have to share what Lavender did for me when I first got it. I got a nasty burn from my hair straightener and it blistered under running cold water almost immediately. I remembered that someone told me Lavender was good for burns so I put some on my burn neat. The burn still hurt like the dickens so I did the cold water-dried it-lavender about 3 x’s, covered it up with a tissue and did something else. At one point I realized it no longer hurt, took to tissue off and found the blister was gone and there was no sign of any burn. That was by far my most amazing experience with oils but I sure made me realize they really do something!!!
Isn’t it amazing how quickly Lavender can help with burns? Great oil to keep around when using heated irons.
Like a lot of these comments, Lavender was my first oil I ever used. Love it so much–its versatility, its fragrance, and effectiveness! One of my favorites is diffusing lavender, cedarwood, and vetiver at bedtime! So relaxing and gives me a good sleep.
Love lavender! It’s one of my favorites 🙂
I love lavender! I keep a roller bottle of it and it teally helps with headaches and so many other ailments.
Great info. I only use Plant Therapy oils. Excellent quality! I go back and forth with the regular and organic lavender’s. I base my choice off of the current test reports. I am always pleased. Lavender is so versatile and amazing. I really miss lavender flower CO2, it was awesome

That’s why I love Lavender. It has so many uses and it smells wonderful!
It always amazes me to learn of all the ways lavender can be used. It was one of the first oils I tried and one of my favorites.
Lavender is awesome! I use it in some form every day.
Lavender oil is one of my go to oils. My son struggles with falling asleep. He gets that from his mom. I purchased my first bottle of Lavender Oil from plant therapy last week! Wow! The smell of it is so much sweeter than the last brand I’ve been using. My husband still doesn’t like it though. It reminds his of changing babies messy diapers- I used lavender oil in our homemade baby wipes for my daughters rashes which it did help tremendously!
Lavender is the basic of all essential oils. I use this oil for calming and before best for a good sleep.
Love, love, love Lavender oil. My all time favorite- use it daily!
Lavender is so relaxing. It helps me sleep better at night. It is one of my favorite go-to oils for almost anything. When in doubt, start with lavender!!

Oh I had no clue that Lavender would help with Sinuses! I will definitely have to try that out, I struggle with sinus issues pretty regular! Thanks for this information.
Lavendar was the first EO I got for making my own deodorant with. Now there’s hardly a thing I don’t use it for!
Lavender and orange are my favorite combo for laundry (dryer balls) and lavender and vanilla is my new favorite blend to diffuse! It’s diffusing 24/7 in my home!
Lavender also works wonders for bug bites. My toddler gets huge welts from mosquito bites, and if I put lavender on right away, they subside quickly without him clawing at them.
Isn’t it amazing how quickly it makes a difference? Definitely a must have for warmer months
Lavender is one of my staples in my oil collection. I use it for so many things I always make sure I have a supply of it.
Lavender was my first oil and it’s still my favorite! Whenever someone asks me about essential oils, I always start by telling them about the beauty of lavender. Thanks to this blog, I have somewhere great to direct them! Love Plant Therapy! You never cease to amaze me!
Ronica, I think most of us can agree with you on your love for Lavender! It’s so versatile yet gentle so the possibilities are endless

It seems there are endless possibilities with Lavender. Thank you for sharing the ways you use it 🙂
Ah lavender! This is definitely the most versatile oil. I love it in so many ways. It’s also great that it’s so powerful and yet gentle enough to use on skin without dilution (e.g. for bug bites).
Yes, Joanna! Isn’t it just amazing? Probably the most popular introductory Essential Oil for most!
I absolutely love PTs lavender! If I wanted to add it to smelly laundry like mentioned would I just drop a couple drops into the wash? Or onto the dryer sheet? This is such a great idea I had never thought of! I am interested in trying the lavender in a steam also!
You could go ahead and either add 10-20 drops of Lavender directly to your washer at teh beginning of the washing cycle, or you can add a few drops to a dryer sheet. Whatever you’d prefer!
Love all of the different ways lavender can be used!
Love all of these ways to use Lavender. I enjoy diffusing it around the house, but I hadn’t thought of other uses. Thanks!
I lvove lavender. It is such a relaxing oil. what first got me more interested in EOs.
Great infomation. Need to try a few new uses you mention here.

Lavender was one of my first essential oils and still is one of my favorites as well.
Lavender is my most used oil for sleep, so it’s so great to learn all these other benefits as well. Thank you!!
I loved the history fact about the smell of lavender wafting out of the tomb 3,000 yrs later! I love lavender. It calms my toddler right down. Also, I got a chuckle from the typo “bed” smells, lol. Thanks for the info!

Lavender is my most used oil
Lavender is so relaxing to diffuse. I find adding Ho wood and a tiny bit of ylang ylang takes it to the next level.
Lavender oil is one of my top favorite oils. I diffuse it on it’s own or in a variety of blends (with peppermint and orange sweet being my favorite blend). Thanks for some more ideas of how to use my lavender oil around my home.
I really didn’t like lavender at first. Now that I’m using it more, it’s smelling better to me.
Plant Therapy’s lavender is the BEST. I’ve been using it for a while now for sleep, but never knew you can use it for sunburns! awesome!
One of the first oils i ever even used!! Still a favorite use it for everything !
This oil doesn’t go a day without being used from diffusing to peace to itchy skin. This takes care of all of those things.
I was never a fan of lavender until I started using essential oils. I ordered some just because it’s so therapeutic for such a variety of things (every time I look up what I should use for a certain purpose, lavender is almost certain to be on the list). I didn’t expect to love the scent, but the oils a world apart than the artificial fragrances.
I have been told Lavender is good for insect bites. Is this true?
Cassandra, Lavender can help reduce the pain, swelling, and redness associated with bug bites and other itchy skin issues.
I use it almost for everything. Add to my shower gel for a relaxing bath. Lavender jojoba is now my favourite for face and hair. I even use it as a perfume (non-dilution) on my clothes. It last the whole day.
Lavender is such a versatile EO, wish I liked the smell as much as I seem to use it lol.
Your lavender is devine. I’ve always had lavender EO throughout my life, starting from when my mum would add a drop or two to cotton wool and put it under my pillow when I was a child. Yours is just such a beautiful scent, I’ll never purchase from another company.
I use this oil a lot. I diffuse it along with peppermint and lemon and it gives me a good nights sleep. I am also adding a few drops of lavender and lemon on my laundry and my clothes smell nice.
Lavender oil has so many uses – definitely a must have! I’ve been using it on my rosacea and have better improvements than I have during the last year with a prescription cream!!
I love the earthy scent of Plant Therapy’s lavender. Not all lavenders have such a grounding effect for me!
Lavender is one of my favorites…it can be used for so many things
Just discovering how much I can use this essential oil. Thank you for this informative blog.
This might be the favorite oil in our home. We love it for sleep and sunburns. I’m exciting for a few new uses.
Its is one of my favorite oils. It is relaxing and takes me to my happy place. Love that it is good for many things.
I like to diffuse Lavender in my office at work when I am feeling anxious or stressed. It’s the perfect “chill out” oil with it’s calming scent, however too much of it and I just get sleepy. But it’s perfect if you need to calm down or chill out.
I love lavender and it’s great to use in everyday!
I had a lavender hand cream and I didnt love the scent. I just ordered a bottle of the essential oil because I’ve heard it’s a must have so I hope it’s a better experience!
We use lavendar on sunburn and any type of burn, it works so well!
My first essential oil!!! So many uses. It was our dog’s favorite ….she knew it would clam her during thunder storms. She would stand by my oil cabinet and want her oil….smart dog. I love to diffuse it with lemon.
I’m glad to see that lavender calms some dogs during thunder storms. We foster for our local no kill humane society. Learning about this will hopefully help “Prince Albert” & “DeeDee”. I also adore the aroma. thanks.
Lavender is still my favorite.I use it so much!
Not a big fan of the Lavender scent, but I buy it because it is so versatile. I appreciate this post and am glad to have a few more ideas on how to use this oil.
I love lavendar oil. Was my very first oil and the one I use the most of.
I love adding lavender to my dryer balls when drying sheets and PJs. Thanks for the additional tips.
I think I’ll give lavender another chance after reading all the great uses on here. Use to be my favorite fragrance for bath gel, soap, room sprays before I started using essential oils. Early on had an experience which turned me off lavender, but I don’t remember what it was. Time for a linen spritz and a nose renewal!!
Lavender was the first oil I tried and its still a favorite. My favorite way to use it is with peppermint and lemon to help with seasonal allergies. I also just love the aroma of that combination!
I’ll have to try that combination now. Thanks!
I also love that combination…
Love your lavenders! I have tried your regular one, the Lavender Fine, and the CO2. The Lavender Flower CO2 was my favorite…any plans to carry that again?
At this time, we do not have any additional information about getting that product again
Great to know another way to use lavender. What is your ratio of the oils?
Jane, can you explain what exactly you are wanting the ratios for, please?
I love using Lavender with Mandarin and Frankincense in a diffuser when my kids are showing the very first symptoms of a cold or flu. When there might be no sneezing or fever yet but they just get cranky. Works magic every time!
I love the CO2 also,I think even more than regular. Pleeeeeeaaaase Plant therapy pleeeease carry the CO2
