The beauty and fragrance of the rose have been prized for centuries the world over. With an exquisitely sweet and distinct aroma, it’s no wonder that people fall in love with the flower that has come to symbolize “love” itself. Perfectly coined the “Queen of Flowers” by the Greek poet Sappho, the rose continues to be an incredibly popular and significant flower. Its gorgeous and recognizable scent is captured in Rose Absolute, a precious and stunning addition to any essential oil collection!
Plant Therapy’s Rose Absolute comes from the Rosa x centifolia, commonly called the Cabbage Rose or Rose Maroc. It’s an old-fashioned style rose, with many layers of thin pink petals, that thrives in long, hot Moroccan summers [1]. To get an absolute, first, the flower heads must be picked in the early morning to retain their fragrance [2]. Next, solvent extraction is used to produce the reddish-orange absolute we know and love. There is another type of rose oil, Rose Otto, which is the steam-distilled essential oil of the Rosa x damascena. Both are beautiful choices, but the Absolute is a more affordable way to enjoy all the benefits rose has to offer to our mind and body.
Let’s check out some of our favorite ways to use Rose Absolute…
1. Negative thoughts? Feeling lonely or rejected? Rose Absolute can be the light that helps get you through.
The emotional healing properties of Rose Absolute are perhaps one of its most defining qualities. It has long been known to support the healing of emotional wounds, especially when dealing with rejection and loss. The sweet, gentle comfort of Rose encourages compassionate feelings toward both ourselves and others. It helps reduce feelings of stress and tension by calming the nervous system and lifting our spirits [3].
Enjoy a beautiful, relaxing bath when gloomy thoughts have you feeling down. Blend 2 tablespoons of unscented body wash with half a cup of Epsom salt, 2 drops of Rose Absolute and 3 drops of Sandalwood Australian. Is Sandalwood missing from your arsenal of products? Rose Absolute would also make a gorgeous bath blend with essential oils like Bergamot, Patchouli, and Vetiver.
2. From those always awful monthly cramps to an upset, overstuffed stomach, Rose Absolute can help.
Rose oil is commonly associated with women. Not only is it The Queen and smells quintessentially feminine, but it is also known to benefit the female reproductive system. It does this by helping to tone the uterus, supporting a regular menstrual flow, and soothing cramps and spasms in the intestines and uterus [3].
However, us ladies aren’t the only ones who can benefit from this precious absolute; Rose is useful for all types of digestion issues. It can help reduce feelings of nausea [4], stimulate and strengthen the liver, and get everything moving along as it needs to be [3].
When tummy issues are giving you problems, try diluting Rose in your favorite carrier oil and massage clockwise on the abdomen. For a safe 2% dilution, use 6 drops of Rose Absolute with 2 teaspoons of a carrier.
3. Gorgeous skin. Need I say more?
Inflamed, dehydrated, and dull skin is no match for Rose Absolute. It’s great for all skin types but is especially wonderful for dry, mature, and sensitive skin. It can soothe inflammation by constricting capillaries, which make it ideal for dealing with thread veins (commonly referred to as “spider veins”). Exceptionally dry skin and occasional skin irritations will love soaking up Rose’s topical benefits, and you’ll love the way it makes you look and feel!
For facial and neck applications, make sure to dilute to 1% in a carrier oil. One drop of Rose Absolute and two drops of Frankincense Frereana with 2 teaspoons (10 mL) of a carrier makes an excellent supportive and fragrant serum for the face and neck. For a more intensely nourishing topical blend, try 2 drops of Rose Absolute, 3 drops of Blue Yarrow, and 4 drops of Roman Chamomile in two teaspoons of carrier or lotion. This creates an overall 3% dilution, making it perfect for areas of the body that need hydration, such as the elbows, knees, and feet.
4. Enjoy simply as a personal fragrance to keep the garden with you all day long!
Rose has several great therapeutic uses, but let’s not forget about how good a beautiful scent can simply brighten your day! Diluting and wearing as a personal fragrance is a simple way to smell like a rose garden fresh in bloom—wherever you are! Sweet and sensual, Rose Absolute is a renowned natural aphrodisiac as well, making it a perfect fragrance for a special night out.
Use in a roll-on bottle by adding 6 drops to 10 mL of Fractionated Coconut Oil and roll onto your wrists or along the collarbone.
For a romantic diffuser blend, try this gorgeous recipe from our SEOR Facebook Admin and Certified Aromatherapist Tyler Hagan: 3 drops of Balsam Fir, 2 drops of Ylang Ylang Complete, and 1 drop of Rose Absolute. It’s aptly named “Magnetic” and is perfect for that romantic evening at home. For more great recipes, become a member of our Safe Essential Oil Recipes group on facebook!

can this oil be used for sugar scrubs?
Rose would be a great choice for sugar scrubs! It’s also very excellent for the skin.
I am considering purchasing Rose oil, thanks for the info. on all the ways i can use it. It’s quite pricey, any sales coming up on it?
You’re in luck! Because Rose Absolute is KidSafe, it’s 20% off as part of Customer Appreciation month. But the sale could end any day, so don’t wait.
Love rose absolute. It smells so good and is a very peaceful calming scent for me. I also use it in near perfection carrier oil and it makes my skin on my face glow love this oil
Recently bought Rose Absolute. Truly smells like a garden of roses. Worth every penny.
I absolutely love my Rose Absolute!!! I use it in my face cream & in my necklace
I love rose absolute . Definitely one of my must haves. Use it in my soap free face wash and I love blending it with other oils to diffuse. Such a gorgeous aroma!
Sounds heavenly. Loving that it helps during times of loss. It can be difficult to find the right words to comfort a grieving person. iT’s wonderful to know that the Earth provides comfort with this EO. Thank you for the great article, Katrina.
I’m so glad you like the article 🙂
I’m so excited to try this in one of the blends with other EO’s mentioned by PT. I have always used rose EO just in DIY skincare applications. Thanks for always bringing us suggestions on how to use different EO’s!
Thanks so much for this helpful information!
I splurged on Rose Absolute at the end of my recent pregnancy and fell in love with taking baths dropped with rose, bergamot, and grapefruit. After reading this post I’m about to go drop some in jojoba oil and massage on my dry elbows :).
I love Rose oil. I make my own facial toner and the smell is so uplifting and great for my sensitive skin 🙂
This is my next must own EO, I cant wait to get some and use it right away.
Rose Absolute is absolutely lovely I am loving every experience I have with this oil and can’t wait to see what else it can do
I can wait to try this one!
I am thrilled that I have both Rose Otto and Absolute- which I bought them through the perk rewards that I’d saved up- I cannot tell you how impressed I am with those oils! They smell truly amazing! I am beyond excited, I’ve already made soaps, lotions, and face creams- perfect little gifts for family and friends to give out. They all loved it- the smell is so uplifting- it does put everyone in great mood!
I have had rose on my wish list for some time. I am keen to use it for skin and calming. I have also read that it is a good one for endometriosis. Keen to try it.
A Rose is the queen of flowers the smell is so heavenly. And it is good for you, what a bonus!
I love the smell of rose and was so happy when it was the spotlight I couldn’t help myself from ordering.
I can’t wait to get it. Thank you PT!
Rose was my first EO “splurge” because so many times I would get something and the smell just wasn’t what I was expecting. So with a little angst, I splurge during the New Year sale and got Rose Absolute. Oh. My. Word!!! It smells divine. It is very strong, so a little goes a long way. Someone shared with me their diffuser blend of 4 drops Rose Absolute, 2 drops Bergamot, and 1 drop Neroli. My diffuser is too small for that, so I made a mini-master blend to try. It is heavenly! It was also very helpful to diffuse when we lost a 13 year old friend to Leukemia last week.
Thank you so much for sharing such a personal story, Molly. Rose is especially beneficial when dealing with grief, and we are so happy that you are able to find some emotional support with it 🙂
We just got this. I knew it was good for somethings but didn’t realize it could help with cramps and stomach issues can’t wait to try it for mine and my wifes
I purchased the Rose Absolute and Rose Hydrosol for my mother for her birthday/Mother’s Day after she made the comment she would like it but just couldn’t see spending that much on an oil. Her birthday is in April although I don’t know if I can wait that long to give it to her. To be honest I want to give it to her earlier so I can smell it and see if I want a bottle for myself! I normally don’t like floral smells but I’m VERY curious to see what it smells like.
Best oil fragrance EVER! It smells heavenly and I had no idea it had so many uses!
I just received this and diffused yesterday! What an INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL smell! Just like smelling the real thing. I’m so excited to make my first face serum with this and I can’t wait to use it. It brings out the delicateness and softness of a rose petal. It’s just amazing!
We are so glad you love it, Stephanie!
My next CAM wish list!
This is my favorite oil! I use it in my face serum
I am in love with this oil. Love the scent and that it has so many benefits. Thank you for all the information.
This is on my wish list!
i love using this with some aloe and jojoba oil as a moisturizer
I cannot wait to try this! I LOVE the rose smell and have been having a rough time lately emotionally. a few more paydays maybe….
I caved in and bought it! Can’t wait to get use out of it, thanks for the suggestions!
this is definately on my wishlist, maybe when I get a $40 reward perk on of these days
I have waited 2.5 years to add this to my collection and just finally ordered it with coupon and some BeFrugal cash. Soooo excited to start using this in my skincare routine! This seems like it’s going to be a very strong scent–for diffusion, is one drop gonna fill up the room (like with Jasmine?)
I’ve been on a rose absolute kick since Valentine’s day just for the fragrance. I’m always glad to be reminded of the therapeutic properties as I’m seeing that I have several issues going on now that rose can help with. Thank you for the info!
I’ve been looking for a kid safe option for spider veins while I’m nursing. I’ll give it a try.
I’m going to be making a roller bottle for my friend who has terrible cramps. I hope this alleviates her problems. Thank you for the wonderful information.
Thank you for sharing more ways to use Rose. I have the rose absolute, but have been using it very sparingly. I think it’s definitely time to add it to my facial serum. 🙂
I am not typically fond of flower scents which is kind of funny since my maiden name is “Rose”, but the therapeutic benefits make Rose Absolute sound like it would be worth trying so maybe I will.
Thank you for ideas to use rose eo. I have the precious flower set and am not impressed with them on their own. I am going to try the skin care recommendation and mix rose with some frank f. Who doesn’t want better skin? Please post ideas for the neroli and jasmine as well.
I blend rose absolute, sea fennel and Geranium Egyptian in my facial serum, I also love adding 1 drop of Magnolia flower to the serum for that extra sweet scent. Feel great and smell great whenever I put on the serum! I’m heading 60 and I don’t have obvious wrinkles on my face.
That sounds like a wonderful serum! Thank you so much for sharing 🙂
I cannot wait to order! I have been wanting to try for a long time and I think this finally convinced me.
Thanks for sharing all the ideas. I can’t wait till my rose absolute comes in the mail.
Thank you for spotlighting this – order on the way! So looking forward to trying this as a facial serum!
Tried Tyler’s blend last night…each scent came shining through and it was divine! I never thought to add a woody scent with rose. It really was a nice combination. If you like sweet, floral scents this one’s for you!
I’m going to have to try this. It sounds perfect!
Rose is on my wishlist!
So where do you apply rose oil in order to help with cramps?
Please dilute it in a carrier oil and rub onto the abdomen in a clockwise manner 🙂
Wow, sounds like I really need this oil! All the listed uses would benefit me. I had no idea it could have some many therapeutic uses. I have the most sensitive skin, which is now ‘mature’. If only I were rich hah. 😉 Maybe some day I’ll pick it up.
Katy, for now, have you considered trying Rose Hydrosol? MUCH more easy on the wallet and it is fantastic for sensitive skin. I’ll link you to the product page if you want to learn more about it: https://www.planttherapy.com/rose-organic-hydrosol?v=876
Would love to try this oil to add to my skincare routine! I didn’t know it could help with digestion issues also – great info!
someone asked is it worth the price. I believe many people prefer either rose, jasmine or neroli … one of them at least is worth the price if you have any cash for divine fragrance. Also each of these are strong and only need a drop or 2 … for blending dilute it to 10%.
I love rose absolute thanks for sharing these great recipes!
One of my favorite oils, for all the reasons listed, and more. Mostly, I just love it because it reminds me of Grandma’s rose garden. I use rose absolute when I feel sad, and, in addition to the scent being uplifting, it transports me back to a simpler time, a simpler place, in my Grandmother’s Garden, in my Grandmother’s hugs.
This essential oil is well worth the splurge.
I just purchased this and would like to try the bath blend suggested. How many drops each of Bergamot, Patchouli, and Vetiver?
Amy, in 2 tablespoons of body wash, try 4 drops of Rose, 6 drops of Bergamot, 3 drops of Patchouli, and 2 drops of Vetiver. You can also mix things up a bit–6 drops of Rose, 4 drops of Patchouli, and 4 drops of Bergamot is something you may enjoy. These make about a 1.5% dilution 🙂 Feel free to try your hand at experimenting with oil blends and let us know if you come up with something you love!
Oh this sounds decadent! Something to splurge on and well worth the expense.
Just ordered Rose Absolute and can’t wait to try out especially with this blog post showing a few ways to utilize this essential oil.
My hubby bought me this for valentine’s day…so much better than flowers! Can’t wait for it to get here and utilize these recipes! Thanks PT
I bought this precious oil a few months ago, and I cherish it. It is my go to when I’m having a hard day. I’ll wear it or diffuse it to give me a feeling a sweet indulgence and happiness. A must have!
I love the aroma of fresh roses and glad to learn how beneficial they are to beauty and health.
Totally worth the price for how incredible the oil is!
So happy to see Rose as the spotlight! I was running low so I was thrilled to be able to get a bottle. I love to use Rose for my facial blends.
I can’t wait for mine to arrive! The discount plus rose hydrosol add-on made the choice easy. I will research DIY’s while I await its arrival.
I finally purchased rose and can’t wait for it to arrive. Tyler’s blend with ylang ylang sounds divine. I just received ylang this week, so I’ll be mixing this up right away.
Wish I was able to get your blogs and oil descriptions//uses in PDF format. Have made myself a binder with EO information that I use for quick look ups and information. Print out articles on all things pertaining to EO’s, usage, recepies, etc. (pictures use up too much ink and are something I don’t need). Thank you for all the wonderful information. Your staff are excellent in answering questions promptly and are very helpful.
Thank you
Thanks for this useful blog. Now I can justify adding Rose absolute to my collection. 🙂
bev
Wow, what a decadent, and expensive, foot oil that would be. I do love rose absolute for the face though – it is a must have around here 🙂
I’m interested in the romantic blend diffuser recipe, but I don’t have Balsam Fir. Could you suggest what can I use to replace Balsam Fir?
Any Fir, Pine, or Spruce oil would work great!
I absolutely love the smell of roses. Thank you PT for yet another informative blog.
I hope to own this oil one day. ♥️
I hope to own this oil one day. Love!
Looks to have many benfits and a great smell. Maybe i will be able to try one day, but will need to save up for it.
I just ordered this, and I can’t wait to try it.
I didn’t know all of the benefits! This was very helpful to read. I’d love to try it out!
So many benefits to it. Hope to splurge on this soon
Is this the same or comparable to Rose HIp?????
Rosehip Oil has some similarities with Rose Absolute, as they are both fantastic for skin and aging concerns. However, while Rose Absolute is made from the rose petals, Rosehip Oil comes from the seeds of rose hips, which are the fruit left behind after the rose has flowered and dropped its petals. It’s also considered a carrier oil and not an essential oil. I’ll link you to our Rosehip product page if you’re interested in learning more: https://www.planttherapy.com/rosehip-carrier-oil-extra-virgin?v=1691
I have been very intrigued by this oil, now even more so. The price is the only thing holding me back. Is it worth the price?
It is worth every penny. It smells like true old roses and a little goes a long way. My friend made some body butter with a few drops. It is so relaxing and comforting.
I love it for my skin and its scent…I would not be with out it…YES it is worth it!
Worth the price – especially at 15% off. Great quality – and the scent is dreamy! I keep this in my stash, and I use in all my face oils/creams. I also mix it 1:3 ratio with Sensual Synergy for fragrance concentrate. Mix this into my body creams, and make my spray perfume. Hope this helps 🙂
I just received mine today & I think it will definitely be worth the price. I just made a face serum with it & I love the smell of it, even diluted to just 1%.
I have been wanting this one for a really long time!!
So happy that I just made an order! I have been wanting Rose Absolute for a while and this blog and the Royal Hand Cream video helped me make the leap!
That’s great to hear, Caroline! We hope you love it!
PT blog response on Feb 15, 2019 at 10:56am to Carol Lieber stated they were happy she enjoyed the Rose Absolute EO where she stayed the Royal Hand Cream Video helped her with her decision on Rose Absolute. Where can I view this hand cream video mentioned?
Colleen, here is the link to our hand cream video: https://blog.planttherapy.com/blog/2019/02/14/essentials-video-royal-hand-cream/
I’m looking forward to getting some rose absolute soon! It’s on my dream list!
This sounds wonderful. Can’t wait to order this and start using.
Just what I needed to take the leap and order Rose Absolute. Thank you for all of the wonderful information. It’s priceless. Keep up the great work Plant Therapy!
Thank you for showcasing Rose absolute. I didn’t realize it could be used in so many beneficial ways. I have definitely been enjoying the smell, I paired it with Jasmine in Argan oil and have been using it as a luxurious body oil.
Thank you for this quick reference guide on some top uses of Rose. I’ve always used it for skin, but now I know it can help with my menstrual cramps! I’ll definitely be making a roller for my abdomen. What dilution do you recommend for relieving menstrual cramps? Thank you again!
Samantha, try beginning with a 1% dilution at first, but you can raise it up to 2% if you’re finding that the lower dilution isn’t giving you the results you want 🙂
I am so in love with this oil! When making a roll on perfume, are there any carrier oils that are better than others for scent retention?
Nikki, there really aren’t any carriers that work better than others for retention, but Fractionated Coconut Oil is a popular choice for many people since it is odorless 🙂
Thank you for these ideas. I can’t wait to try Tyler’s blend. I’m a huge ylang ylang fan and have never thought to blend with fir and rose. Can’t wait to get my 10 ml bottle purchased with the spotlight code!
Rose is such a beautiful calming scent for me. I love to use it in blends throughout the day and in my facial care. Thank you PT for spotlighting this lovely scent!
This soounds lovely! I really want rose otto
Don’t want to burst your bubble but I learned the hard way. Just my personal opinion but having just joined the ranks of the PT family in July 2018 I opted for the Rose Otto due to price. The true ROSE SMELL just wasn’t there. Disappointed with the EO and upset with myself too because I took the cheaper way out. Finally, during the 25 Days of Christmas for 2018 I bit the bullet and purchased a special set of EO’s where I compared the true fragrance of the PT Rose Absolute blend and OMG just save your money and purchase it when you can. Especially when they offer 15% off. You will not be disappointed. Remember the saying “YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR”. Never a truer word is spoken. It’s that AWESOME.
Thank you for the info. just what i needed to hear!
