If you’re ready to give your skin a deep-down refreshing and energizing treatment before spring, exfoliation is the perfect thing to do! When you exfoliate, you’re removing dead skin cells on the skin’s surface. Not only does this help your body generate new, healthier skin cells, but it also helps prevent the build-up of dead skin cells, which can lead to blemishes and acne.
We’ve created an easy-to-make recipe for scrub bars that you can use on your entire body! Not only will it help promote healthy, glowing skin, but the amazing coffee aroma blended with Bergamot Essential Oil is nothing short of amazing — if you’re a coffee lover!
Please keep in mind that exfoliation should be done only about twice a week, or once a week if you have sensitive skin. Over-exfoliation can cause dry, damaged, or irritated skin, making it very counterproductive. Exfoliate gently, focusing on areas of your body that are particularly rough, such as the heels and elbows.

This is a very unique recipe! I love that it so natural and takes advantage of left over grounds! It sounds pretty invigorating and would be perfect to start your day
I made this recipe but when I poured the mixture into the molds, I had a 1/4 inch film of coconut oil on the top. Is this normal? Afraid that it wouldn’t harden, I poured it back into my bowl and added more coffee grounds and melted soap. The end product turned out fine but I’m wondering what I did wrong the first time I made it? Any suggestions as to why the original recipe didn’t turn out?
This sounds wonderful! I bet it would smell amazing with Chocolate Truffle and Vanilla Oleoresin!
Oh my word, this looks amazing! I’m betting that Chocolate Truffle and Vanilla Oleoresin would be marvelous in this!!
I’m confused. What is the difference between expresso grounds and ground coffee?
Espresso is a darker roast and more finely ground than coffee grounds. 🙂
Sounds amazing, and will probably be great gifts!
What oils would be good subs for the FCO? I try to avoid using nut-oils, because of nieces who are allergic to any kind of nuts (including coconut and almonds..)
Maria, we totally understand avoiding nuts! I would try hemp seed oil for a great option.
Bergamot and coffee sound very interesting together! Would love to try this, though!
I cannot wait to give this a try! I bet this would help with cellulite as well!
I absolutely LOVE this scrub. It makes my skin feel so soft- and the smell is heavenly! May I also recommend a few drops of peppermint oil for a fresh, crisp scent? Five stars!!
I will surely try this. Thanks
Thank you ~ I cant wait to make this!!
oooohhh!! i need to try this!!
This sounds great for christmas presents! I just need to purchase the soap base. thanks
I was intrigued when I saw this article, and I finally got to try it over the weekend! My soapmaking ability leaves a lot to be desired I think, but by the 3rd batch, it looked a lot better! I haven’t used it in the shower yet, but I used some leftovers on my hands and it was wonderful! Made with Bergamot as the recipe called for, but also made a batch with Chocolate Truffle. So lovely! Fresh coffee grounds are much more aromatic than brewed grounds. Did not use espresso. Only issue is that the coffee stained my molds.
Can’t wait to get my hand son soap base and try this out!
So glad to come across this recipe, I may even add in coffee eo! I had purchased the oil through pt and it smells amazing! Like a rich smooth cup of coffee!
What Kind of molds would you use? And I am guessing you use it as a soap scrub?
You can use plastic, metal, or silicone molds — whichever is your preference! And yes, you will use this just as a scrub and only twice a week maximum. The coffee is very exfoliating and using it too much may irritate skin.
Oh my goodness!! I have yet to try making melt and post soap but this sounds amazing. I definitely need to print this for my Oily binder!!
This sounds like a great addition to my shower. I’ll have to give it a try and if it works well l will make more for Christmas.
This sounds amazing. Will have to remember it for Christmas presents for this year 😉 If I do not have espresso grounds, can I just add more coffee grounds?
Absolutely!
Bergamot is one of my favorite oils! I’ve made coffee scrub with vanilla and other oils but never citrus. I can’t wait to try it!
Wow. It sounds so simple yet so delicious at the same time. Can’t wait to try it out.
I am super excited to try this! I am diving into some research on melt and pour soap bases as I am not familiar with them at all and this will be my first recipe!
This sounds great! I never would have thought to mix coffee with bergamot. Can’t wait to try it.
Bergamot and coffee sound like an intriguing mix! I’ve made a version of these with coffee and peppermint but never thought to try it with bergamot!
This sounds amazing, will definitely need to make this sometime soon!!
Oh! This sounds intriguing!
Do these make you smell like coffee? I could get down with that
It does while you’re in the shower! After you wash it off, the aroma will go with it. However, it will keep a steamy bathroom smelling like delicious coffee for a while 🙂
This sounds amazing! I have Bergamot that I need to find other uses for beyond diffusing, this is perfect!
I cannot wait to try this, I would love to see pictures of the final product!
I love my coffee oil. Will have to try this, it sounds great!
A friend of mine made me a scrub very similar to this and Iove it. This recipe sounds really nice as well, I’ll have to give this a try.
Great recipe! I’m excited to give it a try!
This recipe sounds amazing! I will definitely be trying it out. Thank you, PT!
I love the idea of a coffee scrub soap bar. I’m not sure about the combination of bergamot and coffee but I would give it a try. Are there any other oils besides bergamot that would work well with this recipe? Something that would pair well with coffee but is also good for skin perhaps? If anyone tries any other combinations I would love to hear them.
Maria, I know Bergamot and Coffee sounds like a weird combo, but trust me, it ends up smelling wonderful! Bergamot somehow really takes the Coffee aroma to the next level. It’s also great for skin! But other oils you might want to try blending are Rose, Vanilla, or Orange 🙂
Wow, what a cool recipe, cant wait to try.
I’m surprised that it has Bergamot and Coffee, but I’m excited to give this a try.
I love bergamot in tea, never thought of pairing it with coffee.
I’m having a hard time imagining bergamot and coffee together, but I like the idea of a coffee scrub.
Ooo! I love this idea! Sign me up for sure!
Coffee and bergamot, I would not have thought of that combo. Another diy to my ever growing list. 🙂
What a fun recipe! I’ve only made sugar scrubs with essential oils and coffee is one of my favorite things so I will definitely be trying this recipe!
I made something similar not that long ago (without bergamont). I love it!
This sounds amazing.
This bar recipe looks decadent! I can’t wait to try it!
Ooooooh I need to make this. I have a store bought one I LOVE but it’s been discontinued so I needed a new DIY recipe to make my own.
Bergamot and coffee sound like an interesting combination. I’ll have to try it!
This sounds amazing! I’m going to have to pick up what I’m missing and try this out!!!
Oh man this sounds amazing!!!! I will definitely make later!! I love coffee and bergamont!
Is this espresso *grounds* or just espresso?
Beth, I’m not sure I understand what you are asking. This recipe does not call for prepared espresso or espresso beans, so grounds was added to clarify what espresso ingredient we suggest…if this is not what you meant, I apologize!
I just wanted to clarify if this was espresso or actual grounds, since coffee grounds are *also* an ingredient. I wasn’t sure if both types of grounds were intended 🙂
Thank you for this recipes I’m looking forward to trying it in place of my regular coffee scrub. I’m wondering . . . what is a “soap base”? Is this any soap of our choosing melted down or is it a specific soap recipe?
Heather, melt and pour soap base is a ready-made soap, which can be simply melted down, be mixed with ingredients (such as essential oils and coffee), and then it will harden, making a really nice bar of soap. You can find it at most craft stores and there are plenty of options on Amazon 🙂
Thanks for sharing, I love coffee scrubs. Can’t wait to try this one out with the bergamot oil.
I love doing this in the morning before work. I do make a mess out of it lol. But I love the smell.
This looks like it would be fun to make and use. Will try it in my different molds.
Ooo… I love Bergamot and I’m an avid coffee drinker. I bet this smells Divine.
You’re going to love this, Brianna! The best part is the way it smells. After I made these bars I couldn’t stop sniffing them 🙂 So yummy smelling!
It might be helpful to note espresso grounds are the exact same as coffee grounds, just finer!
These look amazing!!! I can’t wait to try!
This sounds amazing. I’ve not yet made any soaps or lotions. Do I need dedicated kitchen equipment. For instance will the bergamot oil wash out of my ceramic or plastic mixing bowls? And for this & other recipes, when you say to “mix” do you mean with a hand mixer? Thanks!
Nikki, if you could have your own kitchen equipment dedicated to just DIYs, that would be ideal. That way, you don’t have to worry about any cross-contamination or the EOs not washing out entirely. And for “mix”, really you can go either way. I always mix manually, just because it’s something I enjoy doing, but if you’re more comfortable with a hand mixer, go that route! If you were making a butter or cream, though, I would use a hand mixer so that it gets that fluffy texture. For something like this body scrub though, you can mix either way 🙂
Bergamot and coffee sounds like an interesting combination. Bergamot is one of my all time favorite oils. Can’t wait to try this DIY with my daughter!
We hope you two love it!
Yes! This sounds amazing! Where can I purchase soap base? Does Plant Therapy sell on the website?
Maria, we do not sell melt and pour soap base, however, you can find it at most craft stores and there is a pretty large selection of it on Amazon.
This sounds amazing! I was wondering if you know how many ounces of soap 1/2 cup would be? I usually weigh my soap base for recipes. 🙂
Candy, 1/2 cup of soap equals four ounces 🙂
Thisis perfect for spring to come! And I have all the ingredients!
Can’t wait to try this one!
This one looks super interesting! I’m going to have to invest in some melt and pour soap base and give it a try!
Sounds like something my daughters would love. We will have to try it out. Thanks for the great idea! 🙂
IS there a purpose to using the two different types of coffee grounds? or could i just use all regular coffee?
Amanda, you’re more than welcome to use one type of coffee! Two were added to slightly influence the texture and the aroma, which is especially true if you use different brands and roasts methods. It’s just another way to use a variety of ingredients and offer new ways to try something 🙂 You are more than welcome to tweak the recipe as you like and let us know how it turns out if you come up with something you love 🙂
Can’t wait to get this!
oh my this sounds ahhhhmazing!!
This sounds amazing. I’ve been looking for a good coffee scrub so I’m definitely trying this soon!
This sounds so good! Where do you suggest I buy soap base?
Chrissie, melt and pour soap base can be found at most craft stores and there are a lot of different ones to choose from on Amazon 🙂
Yay, I have all the ingredients for this one! Can’t wait to try it, sounds wonderful.
I love this recipe… thought for sure it would include coffee EO… which I don’t have, nor do I even know if there is one! Thanks for the recipe!
Just the recipe I NEED! haha This makes me want to try and make some soap for the first time!!!
Fresh coffee grounds or brewed? The FCO doesn’t make the bars too soft?
Fresh coffee grounds are recommended. I found that the FCO does not make the bars too soft and actually adds a bit of moisture when you’re exfoliating 🙂
I am so excited to try this recipe! I have tried a body scrub and it didnt work wonderfully. Off to search for a soap base!
This sounds Amazing! Woundering if we could switch out Bergamot for vanilla & coffee
This sounds awesome. I love coffee and bergamot is one of my favorite EOs. I just need to get the soap base and the silicon molds to try this out. Would castile soap work? Thanks for all the great recipe ideas!
Andi, are you referring to using Castile Soap in place of the melt and pour soap base? If this is the case, I would not recommend doing that as the bar will not harden. However, you can use the Castile Soap in place of the Fractionated Coconut Oil if you would like 🙂
