  • I have heard that Plant Therapy is unethical, meaning they don’t get their sources of essential oils from the lands and farmers directly, meaning less pay for the farmers for more Plant Therapy company. I also heard that lavender substitutes are used in your lavender essential oil, and that your essential oils can be harmful to the body. Are these claims true? And if they are not, do you have the sources/data to refute those claims??

    1. Plant Therapy prides itself in its extensive and thorough testing process. We vet all suppliers we get our essential oils from and do rigorous testing on every batch and sample received. Upon receiving a sample from our suppliers, we do various rounds of organoleptic and visual testing. We also have it run on various testing machines with our in-house analytical chemist. If we like what we see from our sample, we will send off for 3rd party GC/MS testing to ensure absolute purity and quality. We also do these rounds of testing on the entire lot once it is received in house. You will notice a scent variance in all of our essential oils, including Sandalwood. This is due in large part to the time of year a plant was harvested, where it was harvested and other natural factors. No two lots usually smell exactly the same and that is natural. However, as stated above you can rest assured our suppliers are highly vetted by our sourcing team and the quality is of the best.

  • Today, I read some disturbing information about the company I used to patronize. So I did a search for the best essential oils and your company consistently was at the top of the list. Then I read your story and was hooked. Integrity, ethical, sustainability, people first—who could ask for more?!! That question was answered when I saw the prices, so affordable!!   • Hi, I’m newer to E. oils, started my education journey last year. I started with oils I could buy at the healthier stores like Aura Cacia and Now. But then via the blog Essential Oils Haven, I found your company. I appreciate the affordable prices (I was NEVER interested in any MLM memberships) the descriptions about each oil and the education available on your site. I also like your packaging. It’s feminine and appealing. The new cardboard tubes are great b/c you could re-use them in fun ways. Thank you for providing the free shipping, great customer service and ‘transparent’ testing and education. I feel comfortable trusting this company even as a beginner.

    I’m from Spain. I began in aromatherapy 1 year ago, in a multilevel company, but I want to change to another company with the same OE quality but not in a business multilevel company.
    However, I’m worried about the origen of your oils (Where ara located your plantations?) and about the tracking of suply chain. Do you have tracking implemented?

    1. We do not own any farms or plantations. It would be impossible to own farms in different locations across the world that could grow all of the plants required to make each of the essential oils we sell. We do, however, work very closely with each of suppliers to ensure the quality of our oils.

  • Recently started ordering a few oils from Plant Therapy. I have been ordering exclusively from Mountain Rose Herbs for the last 5+ years. I have heard great feedback from multiple sources on PT Oils. I personally will rarely order anything other than Certified Organic and am very pleased to see that PT has a healthy supply of Organic E.O.’s. I have recieved 6 different oils so far and I am very pleased. I will definatly continue to order from PT. I do have one question regarding the packaging. Although those E.O. bottle containers are super cute and my grandaughter loves to play with them, why not choose packaging that is more eco-friendly (i.e. wrapped in recycled paper)?

    1. Hi Rene! this packaging is actually replacing the old plastic bubble wrap we used to use. Our goal with the tubes was to provide more sustainable packaging as it is both recyclable and reusable. It’s also just one option we’re exploring and you may see other packaging options later.   • I love Plant Therapy and I have been using your oils for a couple years now. I would love for your website to reflect the cultural diversity of your customers who use and love your products. As an Black woman I would love to see more representation on your website and in your marketing.

  • Hello! I see that some of your oils say organic and some don’t? I know you have reports of what’s in the oils, but I don’t have hours and hours to research them. Could you please let me know the difference between the two? Thank you for your time. Many blessings!

    1. Hi Sandra! All of our oils are 100% pure without additives or fillers, so they are all the same in that regard. However our organic oils have all been certified USDA organic which means that no GMOs have been used, the soil is clean of prohibited substances for at least three years and no harmful pesticides have been used. No matter which way you shop, you’ll be getting a quality essential oil. You can learn more about our certified organic oils here.

  • Have had friends who use/sell Doterra Oils and they are ingestible. However, in one response here you indicate Plant Therapy does not stand behind ingesting oils. Does this relate to the oil levels/quality being different than Doterra or is it because your company does not support the use of oils in this way? Am looking for a Frankincense Ferrera that is ingestible and trying to establish whether your product is the same as Doterra?

    1. Hi Donna! All of our essential oils are 100% pure and free from any additives or fillers, so you can be sure you’re getting a quality product. We also include the GC/MS report with our essential oils so you can see exactly what’s in our oils. We don’t recommend the ingestion of essential oils without the supervision of a clinical aromatherapist for safety reasons. You can read more about our ingestion policy here.

    1. Essential oils don’t expire in the traditional sense, but they do have a shelf life that can be affected by heat, light and oxygen. You can read more about it in detail in this blog post.

  • HI . I have been using YL for over 20 years now. I have zero interest in the MLM part of it. I just really like the product has worked magic for my health . Having said that I have been looking for another company with equal quality product as I do not like the MLM aspect of YL. I came across others but they were all MLM as well. I was wondering if Plant Therapy oils are indigestible? and if all the oils are therapeutic grade? how do you test your oils ?

    1. Hi beebots! Hopefully I can answer a few of your questions. First of all, Plant Therapy does not recommend ingesting essential oils. There isn’t enough scientific evidence that this is a safe practice for us to stand behind ingestion as a company. All our oils are high-quality, and each batch of every oil is GS/MS tested and a full panel of the chemical constituents is available on each product page. We provide our customers with these results because we truly value transparency, and respecting our customer’s desire to make an, educated choice. We would love to have you try out Plant Therapy!

    2. You are in the right place! I also left YL many years ago. They have a wonderful wholesale account for people that have their own business. I was just starting out in 2016 and I have no complaints. This is the best essential oil company! I have a health ministry and my clients love the essential oils I get from Plant Therapy. One of my clients told me that Plant Therapy oils are better than doterra. I have been with Plant Therapy for 4 years. Plus they have other products that I love to purchase.

    1. Hi Lyndsey, our company was founded in 2011. All of our essentials are 100% pure, have no additives or fillers. We test every single batch of oils for in-depth information on each chemical constituent with GC-MS testing, as well as evaluating each oil’s color, consistency, and general appearance to give you the most accurate information possible. You can trust that you’re getting 100% pure essential oils.

      1. Hi Kim, all our oils go through multiple rounds of third party GC/MS testing. We also have those results published on every product page. In addition to showing that our oils are 100% pure, it also allows you to view the different chemical constituents of each oil.

  • As a 30+ year practitioner/student of Aromatherapy (since just before Robert Tisserand wrote “The Art Of Aromatherapy”) I have used many quality oils from both other well known brands as well as trusted wholesalers – not one ever being purchased from an MLM (because i’m smart enough to see thru their smoke). While i do not at this very moment have a need for an oil i do not currently possess, having recently discovered Plant Therapy, and also having done the work (research) on your company – i am confident that the next oil i need i will be purchasing from you. The fact that you HAVE the relationship you do with Tisserand Institute is pretty much all i need to know. Looking forward to doing some business soon!

  • I’m new to EO (very new, 2 weeks) I researched for weeks before buying and everything about your company, product, reviews, cost looked like a wonderful package. I took the plunge and bought the 7&7, a sleep EO, and a Kid safe sleep EO. I love them!! I’ve already bought 2 others I was looking at. Got them so quick and used them last night! You have a wonderful company, can’t wait until the next purchase!! One question, do the color of the labels signify anything.

  • I am trying to figure all this out. I know that it can be very difficult and labor intensive to distill and extract essential oils. How do you guys keep your costs lower? One of the big examples are that it take so much supplies to produce such a small amount of oils how do you gain profit and pay fair wages to the farmers or harvesters? Thank you for answering. There is just so much information out there about essential oils it is hard to know what to believe.

While I’d also like to know the answer to this, I conclude as a consumer of essential oils from an M that if a company is able to source for quality and stability but not pay the insane commissions to middle people, they’d be able to pass on those savings to the consumer. I always thought that having sales people making $20k a month selling oils was really driving up the consumer costs. But I’m here to research the quality of this brand comparatively so I’d also like to know sourcing and fair trade as stated above.

          2. I agree Jonelle. Oils do not have to be a minimum of $20+ price point to be effective. Further more, cut out the mlm aspect and I bet those costs would be similar. How else would an mlm make a profit as it trickles down from mlm to middle sales person (commission) before consumer.

    3. Hi Amber! I think that our previous responses have led to some confusion, and we apologize. Simply put, by being a direct-to-customer company, we are able to source for high-quality and sustainable products without having to pay this high price of employing a middleman. This lets us base our prices on fair market value, instead of basing sale price on the need to cover commissions. Additionally, the essential oil industry as a whole is very popular right now, allowing larger, more established companies to charge more simply for the use of their name, due to their popularity. We don’t want to disparage our competitors – we strive to keep a friendly relationship in this industry that we all occupy, and we celebrate the success of other large companies because that success brings more people to this industry. Rather, we offer a different business model that allows us to come down in price.

  • I am so glad I found your company! I previously ordered from MLMs, but the pricing was just too expensive and I didn’t want to be stuck in any kind of subscription. Your prices are reasonable, shipping is fast, and customer service is top-notch. It’s easy to tell that you really care about your customers and want to give them the most helpful information.   • With the essential oils MLMs battling it out all over my facebook and so many misleading statements it was really difficult from me to know what to choose when it came to selecting oils. Plant Therapy has made it easy. I love the lower cost, risk, and pressure that comes with not buying into an MLM program. I love the transparency of Plant Therapy and that they rise above the Facebook battles, never bashing other companies. Most importantly I love that with the kidsafe line and other easy to access info I know what is safe to use around my sweet nephews. The rewards program is a pretty great bonus too.
