February Oil of the Month: Cherry Cordial

It’s pretty amazing what a handful of aromatic components can create when they are masterfully put together in just the right way. Our Cherry Cordial blend smells so wonderfully true to the decadent candy it’s modeled after that it’s hard to believe we didn’t just smash a bunch of the candies up and squeeze them into 10 mL bottles!

Who would have thought the smell of the sweet, juicy, chocolate confection with the syrupy, cherry center could be recreated using only 8 ingredients? Lovingly and thoughtfully, our team of aromatherapists found the perfect blend! Using Copaiba Balsam, Vanilla Extract, Cocoa Absolute, Vanilla Oleoresin, Coffee, Bitter Almond (Rectified), Cognac, and Massoia Bark, Cherry Cordial came to life and (hopefully!) found its way to your doorstep.

Its mouth-watering, sumptuous aroma of chocolate has an irresistible burst of sweetness and cherry that you can enjoy all year long. Given that the word “cordial” stems from the Latin word “cor,” meaning heart, Cherry Cordial is the perfect blend to celebrate this sweetheart month!

Cherry Cordial’s deliciously sweet and distinct fragrance is a perfect way to help your home smell rich and chocolatey, with a burst of cherry sweetness. You can also add it to your personal aromatherapy necklace or personal inhaler to keep the cheerful scent with you all day long. To use it as a lovely lotion, just dilute to 1-2% and apply topically. A lotion or body cream using Cherry Cordial would make a great gift for someone special in your life. Plus, it’s so unique you know it’ll be a one-of-a-kind present.

Since this blend was made entirely from a fragrance perspective, its benefits stem mainly from a person’s emotional connection with the scent. We hope that the sweet candy-like smell brings about good childhood memories, reminds you of your grandparents, or stirs up leftover holiday cheer!

While you’re more than welcome to try your hand at blending with Cherry Cordial, keep in mind that any additional element will lead to a less cherry cordial-type smell. Of course, that makes experimenting even more fun, since you never know what you’ll end up with. If you create something amazing, be sure to let us know in the comments below.

Although it’s not a great choice for blending (since it’s already a blend, duh!), it can make a great addition to all kinds of DIY projects! Try your hand with this candle melt recipe. It’s a fun, new way to get the most out of your Cherry Cordial!

  • This is my picky sons favorite oil.
Please bring it into the regular line up.
We’ve mixed a few drops into our hand soap ,
Diffused it, just smelled it straight from the bottle.
I added a drop to my non smelling shampoo dollap when I washed my hair for a cherry cordial delight.

  • Oooh I definitely want to try out the wax melt recipe, sounds amazing and I have all the ingredients 🙂 thanks for sharing

  • I just joined today! I a6n so sad to have missed this one, as it sounds divine! Can’t wait to receive my first OOTM!

  • This oil is the reason why I signed up for the OOTM club. I love cherrys and I love chocolate so this is perfect, especially for the month of February! Hoping for more blends like these in the future.

  • This is absolutely the most incredible smelling blend ever! One little bottle is not enough! Please bring this one back, I’d buy it over and over.

    1. We’re so glad you love it! And thank you for your comment — we always consider our customer’s input when bringing on a new oil or blend full time 🙂

  • I made a sugar scrub with this, and it smells fantastic! Kind of makes me want to spend the morning in the shower, exfoliating… 🙂

  • Smells so sweet and delicious! It’s my first OOTM, and it was certainly a treat. It stained my diffuser until I used it a couple more times, then I could wipe up the residue with a vinegar-soaked cotton pad. BUT! I just bought some mango and shea butters so I can whip up some body butter! Cherry Cordial will be perfect for that! I’m also planning on putting the empty bottle in some sugar to soak up the dregs and make a sugar scrub. Pretty excited!

  • LOVE this stuff, great for diffusing and no weight gain! Would love to see Plant Therapy come out with a line of “foodie” oils – this one along with Lemon Cupcake, Key Lime Pie, some kind of coconut item – that kind of thing.

  • This smells really good and authentic in the bottle, so I imagine a personal inhaler would also be good. However, diffusing it did not smell good to me.

  • I ordered this the last day available and I am soooo glad that I did. Wow….It smells just like a cherry cordial!!! I can not wait to make some sort of body scrub or lotion. It smells really good to diffuse but I want use it wisely. If you do diffuse it, make sure to shake it well, just as the directions instruct.

  • This is my first Oil of the Month, and it’s amazing! So different than anything else I own! I can’t wait to see what next month brings!

  • I made the wax melts mentioned in this blog and they are amazing! I would recommend the Cherry Cordial to everyone..it is such a happy, uplifting scent.

  • If this is ever available for regular purchase I will definitely buy it! Please bring it back soon, it sounds amazing.

  • looking at the ingredients in the blend is already making me drool. i hope this is available all year round.

  • When I diffused this, the scent is just as the title says. I love it! I’m going to try it in a body butter which has cocoa butter as I love the chocolate smell.

  • This is by far a favorite! I am no longer able to eat chocolate covered cherries or much chocolate of any kind due to food intolerance and now I can smell chocolate and cherries anytime I want. As soon as I opened it I added it to a personal inhaler! I’m in chocolate heaven! Cherries are by far my favorite scents and happy to have them both. I only have two bottles and I don’t want to waste any right now, but will probable do the candle melt and maybe some lotion soon. Thank you for creating this heavenly blend!

  • I love taking occasional light whiffs from the bottle, but it was very strong for me when diffused according to directions. I also made a lotion with it at 1%, and it was very strong. I am still not sure how I feel about this OOTM…

  • When I first received this at the beginning of the month I was less than excited because I really dont like cherry cordials. Then, I diffused it to give it a try. It smells great! Glad I subscribe to the ootm because I never would have purchased on my own and I would have missed out on such a fun aroma.

  • I’m not an OOTM member but can I purchase this one and the chocolate oil separately!?!? Please!?

    1. Sorry, Brooke 🙁 Unfortunately, this is only for OOTM members. You’ll have to wait and see if this is a blend we bring back full time!

    2. Brooke, you can order the oil of the month at a $20 cost instead of $15. It is $15 when you are a monthly subscriber. Before I was able to subscribe I ordered the oils that I wanted for $20. I don’t have a credit card so signing up made was impossible until I figured out that I could use a prepaid credit card.

  • Thank you PT, for creating this blend! It really captured the essence of February and Valentines Day! We all enjoyed it here in our home. Makes amazing scrubs and mixes well with Chocolate and Peppermint.

  • Love this, even told PT to keep it on hand. This is great for DIYs. I just can’t use as it is not KS for diffusion or skin usage. So, I gifted mine.

  • I love this month’s OOTM. It might be one of my favorites. Definitely an uplifting scent that is just lovely! And for what it’s worth…I don’t even like chocolate covered cherries. LOL

  • I made a blend like this for my mother using Copaiba Balsam, Vanilla Co2, Cocoa Absolute, Vanilla Oleoresin, Bitter Almond and instead of using Coffee, Cognac, and Massoia Bark, I used butter co2. You also can add coconut Co2 for another awesome blend. Hope this blend comes out soon for the times I do not have time to make it for her.

    1. Our OOTM selections are only for members, but popular ones do sometimes get introduced into our regular products. Stay tuned!

    2. Katie, yes non OOTM customers can purchase the monthly oil. On the OOTM page when you purchase you are given the option to pay $20 or click the box to subscribe and pay $15/month. It was how I purchased the OOTM until I was able to figure out that I could use a prepaid credit card.

  • This blend sounds wonderful! It’s nice to be able to treat our senses beyond medicinal reasons. This sounds like it would make a really nice lotion or cream. Thanks for another great product PT!

  • The cherry/almond that I smell right from the bottle seems to go away when diffused. I am going to try adding a bit of bitter almond oil to enhance that aspect.

  • This oil smells delicious!! I am so glad I got it, it’s currently diffusing with Lemon Cupcake And is making my life so happy.

  • This is heaven in a tiny brown bottle! Already fantastic in a cocoa butter based body butter, I can’t wait to see where all I can incorporate this scent!
Now twll me PT – how can I get a hold of Cocoa Absolute & Cognac?

    1. Tonia, we do not put the Oil of the Month up for sale once the month is over, however, we do pay attention to customer feedback and do our best to bring back OOTM favorites into our regular inventory 🙂

  • I couldn’t buy this because of my budget, but I know several people that bought it and are in love with it. If you’re on the fence, do it for me lol! I’ve heard it’s amazing to diffuse, uplifting, and really nice in unscented lotions.

  • I was reluctant to order it when I read the reviews first. I wasn’t sure what essential oils were in the blend. Now when I can see everything clearly I’m going to go ahead and order one. Thank you very much!

  • This scent is fantastic, smells exactly as described. Perfect scent for diffusing during the cold wintery nights in the Midwest.

  • Not one of my favorite scents, I find it a bit too heavy and sweet. But I know people who will appreciate the things I can make with it. So on behalf of them, thank you. 🙂

    1. Abigail, this blend includes Coffee Essential Oil and Massoia Bark Essential Oil, and neither of those are considered KidSafe 🙂

    1. I love this synergy! It smells so delicious, just like biting into a cherry cordial. I put it in a personal inhaler and use it at night when I’m having chocolate cravings.
