Tired, sore muscles? Aching, stiff joints? We all know just how soothing a warm, Epsom salt bath can be. What better way to elevate this simple remedy than with some amazing essential oils. Elemi, with its pleasantly sweet and musky aroma, is well known for helping soothe overexerted muscles. Additionally, the fresh scent of citrus will help relieve nervous tension and promote relaxation. These Elemi Rejuvenating Bath Salts are an easy DIY that can help turn your bath into a rejuvenating spa experience.
Please note, use soap coloring instead of food coloring to prevent staining of the skin or the tub. Also, Orange Blood can be substituted for Orange Sweet or Bergamot.
Elemi Rejuvenating Bath Salts
What you’ll need:
- 1 cup Epsom salt
- ½ cup large grain sea salt
- ¼ cup baking soda
- Soap coloring if desired
- 2 tbsp. unscented body wash
- 8 drops Elemi
- 8 drops Orange Blood
Add all these products to your cart
What you’ll do:
- Mix all dry ingredients together in a bowl.
- Add soap coloring if desired. Mix thoroughly.
- Mix body wash and essential oils in a separate bowl.
- Blend dry and wet ingredients together, mixing well.
- Store in an airtight container.
Note: Soap coloring used instead of food coloring because it doesn’t stain skin or tub.
*Orange Blood can be substituted with Orange Sweet or Bergamot.
I tried this the other day and love the scent! I think something about the recipe is off though… I think the soap and essential oils ended up clumped together and floating on the water. I used Dr. Bronner’s liquid Castile soap, anyone have better luck with something else?
I’ve personally tried the recipe with unscented body wash and didn’t have any issues there. Or maybe add the bath salts while the water is still running to help the castile soap disperse?
Made this the other evening because my back was aching again. Finally was able to try it out this evening and I will definitely make this again. I am not overly a fan of the Elemi scent wise but with the blood orange it was very nice and grounding. Back pain is gone, but next batch I will not add the baking soda. Wasn’t a fan how that interacted with everything.
Loads of great gift ideas in this blog. I personally make pretty much all of my own as well.
I bought Elemi and I didn’t like it. I actually thought it gave me a headache. What would be an effective substitution?
Elemi is a resinous oil, so it’s similar to oils like Frankincense and Myrrh. For this particular recipe, Frankincense Carteri would be a good option, but you could probably use whatever Frankincense you have on hand.
This sounds wonderful. How much would you put in for each bath?
You’ll want to use about one cup in each bath.
I love these!! I used bergamot and pink grapefruit in mine for an uplifting scent. Love this recipe!
I finally have all the essential oils I need to make Elemi Rejuvenating Bath Salts! I can’t wait to relax in the bath with this great combination. Just in time for tired muscles from gardening. Thank you!
Ahh! All these bath recipes are killing me! I have all the ingredients! just not the bath,…
This recipe looks great however I did not purchase Elemi. What can I substitute for Elemi in this recipe. I love Epsom salts with essential oils and bubble bath. It’s so relaxing!
I just read another blog, somewhere else, that says using soap with your Epsom salts makes them less effective. I will be giving this recipe a try without the soap. Else I is wonderful!
I love making my family bath salts for different ailments. Thanks for the ideas! We love Plant Therapy oils!
I guess another reason to buy EO for me 🙂
This sounds like a great recipe for a relaxing bath! Can’t wait to try it out!
I haven’t tried adding a salt other than epsom to the bath. I’ll be trying this soon!
So the unscented body wash is the castile soap you used? How long will this store for, as I want to make this for a friend who’s birthday is coming up soon. Thanks Corinna
One of my favorite grounding baths is a soak with Elemi Frankincense and Myrrh. I think it is the Elemi that makes it so grounding. I will definitely be trying this one. Elemi is such a nice resin oil. Frankincense gets all the glory but Elemi definitely deserves praise.
What is the baking soda for?
Chrystal, baking soda is excellent to help soothe inflamed skin and irritation. Feel free to remove it from this recipe if you wish, though 🙂
Definitely going to try this bath salt soak. Thanks PT for another great diy.
Elemi and blood orange sounds like it will make a nice bath bomb
Ive been looking for things to do with my elemi, and these sound perfect.
I made this over the weekend and love the scent of the Elemi and Blood Orange together. Next time I will leave out the baking soda. Mine all clumped up and I had it floating in my bath.
Defently will be trying this bath soak.
I always use Lavender in my bath salts, but this sounds great! I have Elemi and never really know what to use it in. I am excited to have a recipe that sounds like something I will use.
I made this DIY (slightly modified without the coloring or Elemi) on the weekend and it was fabulous! very relaxing. You could use any EO you want really depending on your relaxation scent preference.
I love the orange blood smell so I can’t wait to try this recipe! Thank you for sharing this.
So excited to try making these!
I normally just use one oil with ebsom, this sounds even better! I’ll try it with castille soap. Thanks for the ideas PT!
Oh, I’ll definitely try this recipe! I recently purchased Elemi and thinking of ways to put it to good use other than the usual topical application. Thank you, PT!
Bath salts sound great, I can’t wait to make some!
Can’t wait to try this it was fun watching Retha make it today
I make bath salt to address my sore achy muscles. I have never used Elemi. This sounds good, will give it a try as I do have a Elemi that I won last year from PT. Thank you.
Sounds amazing
I love baths! Should totally try this, thanks!
Can’t wait to make this and have my family try.
This sounds amazing! If only I had the time to take a bath…
So glad to have some other ideas on how to use this oil. I’m not crazy about the smell, so I don’t diffuse it, but I LOVE the way it makes my skin feel when I add it to bubble bath. Can’t wait to try this DIY!
I really want to try this as well as trying elemi in my facial treatments.
Looks so easy! Thanks for the video!!
I bet this smells so good! Thanks for the recipe!
Sounds yummy. Can’t wait to try this!
I wish I had time to take more relaxing baths. Maybe if I whip this up, I will take more me time. Thank you for the recipe!
Next on my to do list!!! Just got my Elemi from Plant Therapy. Yay!
