Essentials Video: Ylang Ylang Youth Face Serum DIY

The Fountain of Youth may be the stuff of legend, but this face serum is the next best thing! The Jojoba oil and Meadowfoam oil provide much-needed moisturization, while the essential oils get to work rejuvenating and smoothing your skin. Frankincense Frereana is a go-to oil for many skincare recipes because of its ability to help it smooths the appearance of wrinkles, scars, dry and damaged skin.

Additionally, Carrot Seed is perfect for helping soften and smooth your skin. And finally, this DIY calls for Ylang Ylang Complete because of its ability to help your skin to retain moisture. All in all, this serum is sure to have your skin looking and feeling positively divine.

  1. I made this serum and put it in a rollerbottle and it is absolutely amazing! I did use Younger Glo carrier oil instead of Meadowfoam. A lot of people say they don’t like the smell of carrot seed, but in this blend it smells perfect!

    1. Thank you so much for your comment, Ashley! I think blending the Ylang Ylang with the Carrot Seed really mellows out that Carrot Seed scent a lot of people aren’t fond of, making it a pretty nice aroma overall 🙂

  2. I am very excited to make this serum. I try to change EOs in my face regimen on a regular basis…exspecially with the chance of seasons.

  3. Thanks for this recipe. i did my own research and came up with almost the same oils so this gives me confidence! Also glad to get the instruction on how to use the ylang ylang. i just bought it and was surprised the scent is SO STRONG! The only difference i have in my own recipe is using the younger glo carrier oil blend instead of the individual carrier oils. Can’t wait to try the combination of our serums!

  4. I currently make my face serum the same except I use sea fennel instead of Ylang Ylang..I’m going to give this a try next! Thanks for another great DIY

    1. I am in the process of making my own face serum and ylang ylang is one of about 4-5 oils i want to add. What are you using other than fennel?

  5. Thank you for the video! I purchased Ylang Ylang from PT a while back because a friend told me how much she loved it. Other than using it as a fragrance, I didn’t know what else to do with it so it basically sat in my drawer. I can’t wait to put it to good use now!

  6. I highly recommend storing your serum in a dark bottle with a dropper. The dropper makes it so much easier to get just the right amount without waste or contamination.

  7. Would this be used as a moisturizer, or would I still need to use a regular face lotion after the serum?
Thanks for the recipe! I have everything except ylang ylang, ordered that today!

    1. Ashley, I would not recommend following up with a moisturizer after using this face serum. You’ll find it is plenty moisturizing for your face without adding anything else 🙂

  8. I have never heard of Meadowfoam before ordering from Plant Therapy. I am very intrigued by its benefits and antioxidant quality. I currently use Argan oil in my face serums and I am going to try using a combo of it and Meadowfoam next time, rather than the Jojoba. I agree that carrot seed is not the best smelling essential oil, yet I do feel that it helps my sun-damaged 60+ skin and pairing it with Ylang Ylang does tone down its scent. I love adding Ylang Ylang to my blends.

  9. I don’t have Ylang Ylang-plus I don’t care for the smell, its there a good substitute for it? Thank you.

    1. Dana, you can substitute the Ylang Ylang for Lavender and get some great skin benefits. However, the aroma of this will change drastically. Ylang Ylang is incredibly strong, I agree, but it does a great job at toning down the aroma of Carrot Seed, while the Carrot Seed takes the edge off the overpoweringly floral smell of Ylang Ylang. Another substitution you might want to consider is Palmarosa. I hope this helps!

    1. Kacie, Lavender would be a good oil to replace Carrot Seed with 🙂 Carrot Seed does have an aroma that not a ton of people enjoy, but it really does have amazing properties for skin!

    2. I don’t love the smell either but it’s not awful. To me, it’s sort of a musky, earthy, herbal smell. I use it in my face serum. It’s strong at first but fades quickly.

  10. Thanks for this recipe, has my favourite essential oil of Ylang Ylang, devine and Kmy go to skin beautifying EO’s of frankincense and carrot seed. I have to give it a try.
