It’s day 1 of Earth week, and want to save money, time driving, and energy? We’ve talked about why sustainability is so important to Plant Therapy before, and how you can start your journey towards greener, non-toxic living. Today we’re starting with saving energy!
Check out this DIY for making your own natural sugar scrub.
DIY your beauty products.
You ran out of your fav beauty product, better run out and grab some more, right? There’s a better way! So many beauty and bath products can be done by DIY at home, using all-natural ingredients. This means that not only are you not using that extra energy driving to the store, but you can feel great about what you’re putting on your skin.
DIY Natural Sugar Scrub
What you’ll need:
- 2 oz Melt & Pour Soap Base
- 1 oz (Solid) Coconut Oil
- 1/2 cup White Sugar
- 39 drops Steam Distilled Lime essential oil
What you’ll do:
Put the soap base and coconut oil in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 15-30 seconds until melted. Add 39 drops of Steam Distilled Lime and mix well. Add sugar and mix to incorporate. It will begin to harden fast. Microwave for just 10-15 second more and pour into a mold of your choice. Spray with rubbing alcohol to remove bubbles.
We’re not done yet!

I am allergic to coconut. Is there a substitute for the coconut cubes?
The solid coconut oil helps soften the melt and pour soap a little. You could replace it with Shea butter or use a carrier oil (although the amount would need to be adjusted to keep it from softening too much).
How many cubes does this recipe make?
Hi Karry, this depends on the size of your mold. Using a larger mold will give you bigger scrub bars, but less of them. Or you can always find molds with fun smaller shapes!
I’m always looking for a new exfoliating, body scrub (and shower gel) recipe. TY!
Thanks for the DIY’s!
It would be fun to mix it up with a couple of different oils! Thanks for sharing!
I´m going to try for sere 🙂
This looks like a winner! I’m going to add some Activated Charcoal to this scrub.
Love this! I made a lot of products to replace the chemically based ones. This is great.
This seems different than the regular sugar scrubs in a jar. Would you use this like a lotion bar?
Yep! This scrub does solidify and you would use it like any other scrub.
Will make this to gift my Dr. She loves the stuff I make for her.
My teenage daughter buys so many retail body scrubs. I cant wait until 1 of her jars empties and I can make this to replace it! She’ll never even know and I’ll be happier because I know what’s in the products she’ll be using!
I can’t wait to try this!
So much fun! These are part of my mother’s d gifts!
Making this for mother’s day gifts this year. Such an easy recipe and fun gift!
Excited to try this one! I don’t have lime, but just got April’s OOTM and will be using that instead.
I love this recipe, so easy to make and customise. This solid body sugar scrubs are my favorite DIY project.
I can’t wait to make this!! Lime sou.ds nice but I don’t have steam distilled so maybe I will use honeybell
I love scrubs. Have to try this one
Check your graphic – the instructions on there still say “Endless Summer” under the written instruction under “what you’ll do”. 🙂 I sent an email the other day, but I don’t think they’ve had a chance to update the graphic yet.
Can’t wait to try this great recipe! Lime sounds like a great choice for a summer scent!
I’ve been looking for a good exfoliating bar recipe. This is the best/simplest one i’ve seen. I can’t wait to try it.
Would replacing sugar with something like pink salt work?
Absolutely, Deanna!
I made this scrub and all I can say is…AWESOME!! Can’t wait to make more with other EO’s.
Sounds so easy! Can you sub a different essential oil?
Absolutely! This is a very versatile recipe!
This
This looks like a lovely recipe! Thank you.
This sounds great, I can’t wait to try it. Thank you!
I’m loving Plant Therapy, and all of the amazing things I can make!! This DIY scrub is going to be my first project!!
I’m excited to try this!
So is this a scrub you scoop out, or more of like an exfoliating soap hardened? Sounds like it would smell amazing wither way! Just trying to figure out what the finished product would look like.
Kristin, this is like an exfoliating soap that is hard 🙂
I can’t wait to make this!
Sounds lovely and easy!
Since I do a lot of canning jam, I use organic sugar from which is less refined than white sugar…would it still be the same results using it ? I wouldn’t think it’d be too much difference.
You are definitely A-OK to use your organic sugar for this recipe 🙂
This sounds like something I can do! The lime sounds delightful, definitely going to give it a try.
This sounds easy I might actually try it. Only thing I buy is natural unscented shower gel so I just squeeze some of it in a cup, add sugar plus few drops of Essential Summer – super lazy of me but the results are amazing!
Thank you for this blog. It’s just the right time as I am looking for a sugar scrub recipe for teacher’s gifts. So, since it uses a soap base, the finished product should be solid and not liquidy like the usual sugar scrub, am I correct? Does it also mean that I don’t need to wash my hands again after using this? Or is it intended for body wash with sugar scrub? Thank you…
This sugar scrub is in a solid form because of the soap base and it’s really your own preference if you would like to wash your hands after using it 🙂
This sugar scrub sounds amazing! Can’t wait to get started!
This looks like a great recipe! Excited to try and customize!
