If you shopped with us on May 4th, you were lucky enough to score one (or all) of these essential oils at an incredible price. But now what? If you’re at a bit of a loss for how to incorporate these oils into your collection, keep reading. We’ve rounded up some of the best uses and DIYs for each essential oil. You’ll be sure to find some new favorites.
Let the oily goodness begin!
Grapefruit Pink
Grapefruit Pink is a staple in any essential oil collection! Its citrusy, fresh, sweet aroma is instantly recognizable and has a variety of therapeutic benefits. It helps boost energy levels, brighten your mood and even help with mental alertness. Grapefruit makes an excellent addition to any diffuser blend, inhaler blend or even an aromatherapy necklace.
Brain Tamer Roller Blend
What you’ll need:
- 2 drops Spearmint
- 2 drops Grapefruit Pink
- 1 drop Chamomile Roman
- 1 drop Bergamot
- 10 mL (2 tsp) carrier oil of your choice
- 10 mL roller bottle
Add all these products to your cart
What you’ll do:
First, add essential oils to the empty roller bottle. Then fill with a carrier oil. Finally, apply to temples and back of the neck.
May Chang
If you love bright, lemony scents, this oil is for you! It can help uplift, stimulate, and provide much needed mental clarity. In addition to helping give you that boost of energy, May Chang is also incredibly useful in skincare. Dilute 0.8% in a carrier oil like Meadowfoam to help fight blemishes and oily skin.
DIY Dusting Spray
What you will need:
- 6 drops Jojoba Carrier Oil
- 7 drops Lemon
- 3 drops May Chang
- 4 ounces water
- 4 oz Spray Bottle
Add all these products to your cart
What you’ll do:
Simply spray and wipe, I like using a microfiber cloth. Shake well before each use. Store in the fridge and use after a week.

Sweet Fennel
This oil might be another lesser-known that just got added to your collection. Even though you might not know how to you use it yet, that’s all about to change. As the name suggests, it has a sweet, slightly spicy, earthy scent. One of the things it’s best for is helping with digestive upset. Simply dilute to 2% in your favorite carrier oil and massage onto your abdomen. Sweet Fennel is also helpful in relieving worries while giving you a boost of energy. No more drowsiness!
One note of caution, because this oil is estrogenic, it should not be used on children or women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have endometriosis.
Cottage Kitchen Diffuser Blend
What you’ll need:
- 5 drops Steam Distilled Lemon
- 2 drops Sweet Orange
- 2 drops Sweet Fennel
- 1 drop Australian Sandalwood
Add all these products to your cart
What you’ll do:
Combine and diffuse in your aromatherapy diffuser.
Citronella
And now for Citronella. Chances are you smelled this lemony citrus aroma before as it’s a common scent in bug repellent candles. It comes as no surprise then that Citronella essential oil is excellent at helping to keep outdoor annoyances at bay. It also helps create a relaxing environment, support the respiratory system and provide relief for sore, aging joints.
Outdoor Spray DIY:
What you’ll need:
- 3 oz Everclear (Highest Proof Possible)
- 1 oz Organic Fractionated Coconut Oil
- 40 drops Citronella
- 15 drops Geranium Bourbon
- 10 drops Rosalina
- 5 drops Patchouli
Add all these products to your cart
What you’ll do:

Lime
Who doesn’t love the sweet, green citrus aroma of Lime?! This oil is uplifting, invigorating and cleansing. It’s a perfect choice if you need to clear your mind and get a mental boost. Lime is also a great oil to help support the immune system and keep outdoor annoyances away. And like many citrus oils, the fresh aroma makes it a useful addition to cleaning DIYs.
DIY Citrus Window Cleaner
What you’ll need:
- 1-½ cups white vinegar
- ½ cup distilled water
- 8 drops Lime
- 16-ounce spray bottle
What you’ll do:
Put all ingredients in the bottle. Shake well and use. Store in the fridge and try to use within a couple weeks.
For the bug spray I am only missing rosalina. Can I omit it or substitute it for something else? Will the whole recipe be ruined without?
Nope, the recipe wouldn’t be ruined without it. Eucalyptus is a great substitute for Rosalina (use Dives if it needs to be KidSafe) or you can leave it out and make up the drops with the other oils. Although, Rosalina is pretty great, so it might be worth investing in!
Love these recipes!!! Thank you so much!!!
Would love to try make the brain tamer blend ! Any suggestions for a substitute EO for roman chamomile ?
Thanks !
I would hold off until you can get it. 🙂 It really makes or breaks this recipe!
I’m so glad I saw this post! I just got new windows in my apartment and I can’t wait to try the citrus window cleaner!! Thanks so much for all the great posts!
Such good ideas. Can’t wait to try some of them out!
I’ve never mixed grapefruit and spearmint together, it sounds interesting.
This sale was amazing! I am just now using these oils a little more frequently and was wondering about how safe they are to diffuse around dogs. I do not use oils on my pets but they are like my shadows so if I am diffusing something they are there. I was specifically wondering about May Chang (its slight obscurity is making it hard for me to find any info on if it is pet safe) and Sweet Fennel.
I have used Grapefruit and Lime in my diffuser with no problems so far.
Citronella is in my DIY bug spray that often goes on my dogs for an extra layer of protection and that one has worked great as well.
Thank!
Hi Ana. So glad you loved the sale! We have a comprehensive list of which essential oils are safe to use around pets that you can find here.
I LOVE grapefruit–one of the most underrated EOs, IMO. That and bergamot are my go-to’s when I need to calm my nerves. I have the steam-distilled lime; am less crazy about that, but it’s great that it’s not phototoxic. Will have to try May Chang soon!
Super helpful! I love these “cliff notes” summaries of the oils available. Thank you!
So glad PT had their 5/4 sale and I tried May Chang. What a wonderful smell!
I took advantage of the May the Fourth sale and tried May Chang and I am so glad I did! I love it! It’s great when PT gives us sales that are too good to pass up so we can try new oils. I also appreciate the great blog posts that usually go along with them. Thanks PT!
This is an awesome companion piece for the set of oils I just purchased. PT’s blends are the best.
Got all these except for May Chang which I regret now! So many uses, tips like these are very useful for users like me who are just with the basic knowledge.
Can’t wait to try the window cleaner diy!
Got these on the 5/4 sale and this is great info!
Love the idea of using lime in my window washing solution. Hopefully it’ll overpower the vinegar scent.!
Excited to try the Cottage Kitchen diffuser blend. Sounds amazing!
I love these ideas and can’t wait to try them!
Great idea! I have all of these EO’s. Thanks for the recipes.
These recipes are awesome. I need to make the Brain Tamer right now, it has all my favorites in it. Thank you for sharing.
thanks for the recipes. i can’t wait to try the outdoor spray and window cleaner.
So excited to find a blend with sweet fennel as I purchased it while it was on sale and not a huge fan of the smell but certainly can tolerate it blended with other EOs just didn’t know what. Can’t wait to try the cottage kitchen blend!
I love how PT is not only a place to buy oils but they also provide info and fun recipes to use them!
I don’t have Roman Chamomile, but I will try the grapefruit recipe! All of the recipes are great to ty, but I miss many of the oils. I’ll do the Brain Tamer for sure, just minus the Chamomile!
Just made a bug spray, which included Citronella, among other oils, to take with us on a recent trip to Central America. The mosquitos weren’t as bad as we had been warned, but one evening I did catch a stealthy one land on my husband, and more followed. I whipped out my spray, and he rubbed it on all exposed areas…didn’t have any more trouble.
I got all of these oils on the special and I had no idea what May Chang was or that citronella smelled good!! I’m so glad I got them and I’m excited to try these recipes. I’ve used the fennel and grapefruit for an upset stomach, it helped, and I absolutely love grapefruit and the licorice smell of the fennel. I was surprised by the Lemonhead smell of May Chang and I have added it to my face oil. Great oils!
Can the dusting spray used in wood? We have wooden furnitures and lot’s of dust.
You can use this spray on wood, yes!
I can’t wait to try all of these different recipes! Especially the grapefruit roller blend!!!
This is my go-to for “happy scent”. Fresh, summery & invigorating.
I purchased these while they were on special because they were such a great price and because I had been wanting to try some of them. My favorite scent is Grapefruit Pink, but I really like all of them. I can’t wait to try some of these DIY recipes. Thanks PT for putting this all together.
So glad i read this. Love May Chang but never thought to dust with it.
Love all these oils. Have made a beneficial change in many of my blends. Will be keeping a supply of all of them for my blends. Have not only made the recipes, but have used the May Chang, Grapefruit, & Lime to create a Morning Star blend that promotes focus & alertness. The Citronella makes the perfect insect repellent that works wonderfully. Plan on reordering all these oils.
I can not wait to try these recipes!
Lime and grapefruit, 2 of my favs! Love these ideas, especially the reed diffusers. I can never have enough good smells going on in my house 🙂

I cannot wait to try my new grapefruit
Such good ideas. Can’t wait to try some of them out!
Great recipes, looking forward to trying them out.
Looking forward to trying the grapefruit recipe!
If I wanted the dusting spray to last longer could I sub everclear and how much for the water, or would polysorbate 20 and optiphen be better choice? Thank you
Excited to try the dusting spray but not too sure about adding the lemon. may be lemon over kill..
Cant wait to try the windowcleaner
Lime is an oil I don’t use often, but look forward to trying these suggestions! I also love having another outdoor spray option, as I like to alternate between recipes. Thank you for the great recipes!
i add 2 drops of pink grapefruit to 32 ounces of water to drink to help curb the munchies!
Thank you so much for posting this! I got all four of them during the sale, then realized I had no clue what to do with any of them aside from the grapefruit. Having read this, I’m so glad I got the other three as well. I look forward to using them soon. 🙂
I take advantage of the promotion and buy the oils, excellent aromas at a great price
Read this at the perfect time! Experiencing some digestive upset right now. Thank you for the recipes!
Thanks for the great recipes! Where can I purchase Everclear?
You should be able to get it a liquor store. Just keep in mind that not every state sells it.
Love lime. Love grapefruit. Love fennel. I never thought about using fennel with the citrus in my diffuser, though. Can’t wait to try it this morning.
Wow, some great new recipes to try – thank you!
I honestly just got the may chang just for the price, but now knowing what it can help with I’m so excited. Plus it smells amazing!
I grabbed 3 of these oils so this is super helpful! Going to try the bug spray and window cleaner!
I purchased citronella and pink grapefruit. Need to make a bug spray using the citronella to be ready for summer.
Oh I definitely needed this post! Thank you so much for the 4$ sale! Thank you for everything that you do for the customers.
Thank you for the helpful hints! Wasn’t sure what to use a couple of these for and now I’ll be making oily DIY’s tomorrow!
Thank you for the recipes that correspond with your recent $4 sale, Plant Therapy is so helpful!
This post is just what I need right now. Now I know what to do with my new oils. PT is always right on point, thank you!
I took advantage of the $4 sale.thank you for sharing ways to use them.i will need a few more oils for the outdoor spray but looking forward to keeping those mosquitoes away
Thank you so much! I took advantage of this deal and have been searching the web for ideas.
Well, I was hoping to not need so many EOs in order to make an outdoor spray, but I’m sure it will smell fantastic!
For the window cleaner, does it have to be distilled water or can it be purified water? I love the idea of using Lime to clean the windows. And would any other citrusy type oil work just as well like Lemon or Orange?
Purified water should work just fine. And you can absolutely use Lemon or Orange instead!
These are great DIY’s! I can’t wait to try them, especially the bug spray!
I ordered the May chang and I love the scent. As far as just the scent goes it’s my new favorite oil.
Thanks for sharing ! I bought all of these oils on the May 4th and didn’t even know what to do with them. But now I do! Thank you!
Thank you for the wonderful cleaning recipes! Perfect for some spring time cleaning
Excited to try some of these. Thanks for all that you do for us plant therapy!
Lime is one of my all time faves! I just sent some to mom for Mother’s Day (along with Mom tray and Spring set) as she is just getting into oils and turns out she likes all the same scents I do so far. I just forwarded this recipe to her. Thanks for all the great ideas!
These are some of my favorite oils. Can’t wait to use the spring cleaning recipes.
I love these ideas for the $4 oils. I need to try the brain tamer!
Wow I’m amazed about these oils and what they can do! Thanks pt for the info
Very informative….thanks. Will keep me busy for a while to try all these : )
Wish i read the blog before ordering only grapefruit. Recipes are great!
I love these, such a citrus junkie!
Thank you for this information. It is very helpful. I appreciate how to always help to educate us.
I’m so glad this blog exists. I’m making a lotion for my mother for mothers day, and am having trouble blending the may chang into it. Now that I have the .08% I know that I was going overboard. No wonder, right ?
Oh my goodness!!!! Love these recipes!!! Thank you so much!!!
This is great! Could you use the citrus window cleaner as a eyeglass cleaner?
I wouldn’t recommend it as an eyeglass cleaner because vinegar can break down any coatings (like anti-reflective) you might have on your lenses.
I can not wait to try the Citronella spray for bugs. I don’t like using chemicals on my body and I am always looking for an effective, natural bug spray. Thank you for the recipe.
And thank you for the May 4th sale, it was fun. I bought 3 out of the 4 (I already had Citronella) and I am looking forward to learning about the other oils and using them.
Thanks for the great ideas! I can’t get enough of lime. It smells so good.
I love all of these recipes!!
I love fennel in combination with jasmine
