Essential Oils for Summer: Cut Chemicals Out of Your Summer Vacay

Hands up if you’re already planning your summer vacay! After all, it is one of the best parts of summer. It’s the chance to enjoy life, the summer sun and just get away for a bit. No matter what kind of vacation you have planned, we’ve got some amazing tips to help you cut the chemicals, enjoy your essential oils and have an amazing vacation.

All About That Beach

Sun, sand and surf. What could be better? If you’re headed to the beach this summer, there are definitely a few things you’ll want to have on hand.

Lavender Aloe Jelly

We’ve all been burnt by the sun. If you forgot to reapply sunscreen or maybe just missed a spot, keep the Lavender Aloe Jelly nearby. Not only does the Aloe help soothe your red and tender skin, but Lavender essential oil is known for its ability to revitalize and soothe skin, including sunburns and minor cooking burns.

Peppermint Hydrosol

As beautiful as the beaches can be, they can also be… well… hot. An easy and convenient way to cool yourself down is with a hydrosol. Just spritz over your body for a light, cooling mist. Plus, you can choose from a few varieties. Peppermint would be perfect since it has cooling properties. Or use Chamomile or Lavender for their relaxing benefits. You can’t go wrong!

The Balm Squad

Whether it’s the sun or sand, it’s no fun to have dried out skin. Use the Organic Healing Balm to help with dry patches, irritated skin or even minor cuts and bruises.

Happiest Place On Earth

Theme parks can be such a fun and incredible experience. Whether you’re going to take a picture with your favorite character, ride the biggest roller coaster or do everything you possibly can, it’s sure to be a blast of a summer vacay. Check out of a few of our most useful products.

Defender

Running around a busy theme park can be fun. But with a lot of people around, you’ll want to make sure you stay protected from seasonal illnesses. Our newest blend, Defender is an ideal choice to use as DIY hand sanitizer with our Aloe Jelly. Plus it’s safe to use on your kiddos!

Energy

If you start out great in the morning but feel yourself flagging by the afternoon, a personal inhaler might be just thing! It’s an easy and portable way to enjoy your favorite oils. Plus, our Energy blend is designed to give you a boost when you feel your energy drop. It combines the uplifting aromas of Blood Orange, Peppermint, Lemon and more.

Muscle Aloe Jelly

If your muscles start protesting after a long day on your feet, not to worry. Our Muscle Aloe Jelly combines powerful essential oils like Sweet Basil, Black Pepper, and Chamomile to help provide an icy-hot sensation that will help bring relief to achy muscles.

The Great Outdoors

Prefer nature to a resort? Who can blame you! Sometimes it’s good to get away from technology and enjoy the mountains, rivers, lakes, and woods. But spending time outside comes with issues of its own.

Shield Me or Nature Shield

Help keep bugs at bay with Nature Shield (for adults) or use Shield Me on the whole family. When combined with a carrier (Aloe Jelly, lotion, or even in a spray), these blends will help keep the outdoor annoyances away. Check out this simple recipe for a DIY Outdoor Spray!

Lavender Hydrosol

A nice hike can sometimes result in a little too much sun. Use a Lavender Hydrosol to help soothe the skin and cool you down. And if you find yourself on a longer camping trip, a good deodorizer is a must have. Spray this on your clothing or sleeping bag to help keep things smelling fresh.

Blue Cypress

Bug bites happen. And itching is a surefire way to put a damper on your trip. Blue Cypress is a fantastic option to help soothe the itching. Just whip up this DIY before you head out!

Did Someone Say… Road Trip!

A road trip is an amazing way to see the country and take the road less traveled. No matter where the road takes you, you’ll definitely want these with you.

Peppermint

One of the most unpleasant things to have to happen on the road is motion sickness. It can make the whole trip unbearable. Luckily, Peppermint essential oil is an excellent remedy for this. Use passive diffusion while you drive or use in a carrier oil and massage onto your abdomen.

Tummy All Better or DiGiZen

There’s not always enough time for healthy eating on the road. And eating food our stomachs aren’t used to can lead to digestive upset. If you’re looking for a KidSafe option, dilute Tummy All Better to 2-3% in a carrier oil and apply to the tummy. Adults can use DiGiZen in a similar manner to help relieve stomach issues.

Nighty Night

So many people have a hard time sleeping in strange places. If you or your family has a hard time relaxing in a new hotel room, use Nighty Night to promote overall relaxation and help everyone unwind after a long day on the road.

  1. I purchased shield me and nature shield and I’m excited to see how they work. I bought the rollers to easily pack in my purse or backpack. I may be back for a hydrosol though as I learn about all their many uses.

  2. Love all the ideas; but I’m a huge fan of the hydrosols. I’ve been using them mainly for my skin, but now in the summer the peppermint is going to be great for the heat.

  3. I am so excited to try some of these aloe jellies. Last year during this time I never shopped for essential oils, so I’m not sure what Plant Therapy had last year, but I am excited to try all the different wants that are offered. I’m not a big fan of lavender, but based on the reviews it seems like it would be a really good product.

  4. Today is first day of a Holiday weekend, so I will be using some of these this weekend. From your blog I learned about “peppermint water” (basically hydrosol before you sold them) to keep cool in the summer. My little plays baseball..will be making some today before the game!!

  5. It’s currently winter here in New Zealand but some great ideas & items to add to the shopping list to get ready for our summer camping trip when that time comes around. Thanks for the great ideas.

  6. I should have read this BEFORE I place my order. Oh well. I’ll be making big spray when it comes!

  7. I always bring my mighty night in my usb diffuser with me when I travel. It makes sleeping and calming down so much easier when away from home.

  8. We already use several of these ideas, but I learned several new things as well. Peppermint hydrosol to cool off? Sounds like a great idea.
    Thanks

  9. While several of these are already on my must-do list, I love having so many great ideas all in one place! Thanks for this post!

  10. I love the muscle jelly! I never thought of using the Hydrosol a for so many different things this summer. Now I am going to have to stock up! The peppermint Hydrosol is going to be my go to most likely! I used to make a spray (before I knew about safe practices) of peppermint and water and kept in fridge and spritzed to cool down. So now the Hydrosol is perfect!

  11. I’d love to try Shield Me for the kiddos this summer. Hate the smell of commercial bug sprays, and the thought of all the chemicals in them leaching into the kids’ skin! Going to try tio make that DIY spray, hope it works!

  12. I have only been a PT customer since March and I am looking forward to trying the hydrosols especially since we visit a particular theme park in Florida quite often. Peppermint, with it’s cooling properties would be great! Having a Lavender hydrosol on hand just in case sounds good too for those missed spots where sunscreen just didn’t quite make it! 😉

  13. Thank you so much for this article!! I’ve been preparing for our upcoming trip and this is sooo helpful!!! I now need the muscle aloe and balm squad!!

  14. Great tips…we are skipping the beach this year but heading to the mountians. And I think these are all just as important whether your beach bound or anywhere bound!

  15. Muscle Aloe Jelly is the best product I have ever used for any type of ache or pain!!! I have given many samples to my friends and family and they love it too. It is a wonderful product to have around always. Never be without it!!

  16. Really good ideas! Guess I’ll be making another order soon….I see some muscle aloe gel in my future

  17. OOooo!!! These are great reminders of what to pack for our upcoming trip to the beach! Thanks for the great ideas, PT! I also need to add that lavender aloe gel to my wishlist!

  18. I have the aloe that I am sure I will be using quite a bit this summer, my hubby burns very easily, but I never thought about putting lavender in it. That makes total sense to do though. Combining 2 powerful products into 1 product with multiple superpowers!

  19. I just got some Aloe Vera Jelly & will definitely get some Lavender Aloe Vera Jelly for sunburns! I try my best to avoid them, but I’m very fair skinned. They hydrosols are next on my wishlist!!

  20. I’m so excited about the Aloe Vera I just ordered from Plant Therapy. It’s supposed to arrive today, and I will have to put it to a few of the uses described in this blog- I already wanted to have it on hand for sunburns, but I’m definitely going to try blending some EOs with it for muscle relief and the DIY hand sanitizer! I think I might get a hydrosol too- that sounds fabulous for the summer!

  21. Great information to have on hand for the summertime! I plan to make the bug spray soon. Loving the hydrosols too. Staycation (backyard) here I come!

  22. This should say “harmful chemicals” because literally everything in life is a chemical. Water, air, etc.

  23. We love the lavender aloe jelly for sunburns! I never thought to take our oils on theme park vacations though, next time I definitely will!
