Evoke Your Best Summer Ever

Summer: It’s not always the stress-free blissful two months it was when you were still in school! Summer can either make or break you. For some people, summer is forever a warm, golden time for making memories, but for some, summer can be a stress-filled rush to fit in everything you need to get done.

Plant Therapy Evoke Your Best Summer Ever

Having your best summer ever isn’t about doing the most, it’s about getting the most out of what you’re doing.

Even though it might be tempting to pack every weekend and spare moment with road trips, BBQs and yard projects, it’s important to make space in your schedule for rest and relaxation too! Having your best summer ever isn’t about doing the most, it’s about getting the most out of what you’re doing.

Scent can be a vital part of any whole-body experience. We’ve gone into detail on how scents help us evoke emotional responses, how to pair romance and scent to create an even deeper connection, and an in-depth look at how scent works on our body using classical conditioning. But what does that have to do with summer?

Plant Therapy infused Evoke setIt’s important during these fleeting summer months to really set the right mood, which is why we created our Infused Evoke summer blends. Fresh, Vital and Lively each come perfect for pairing with every adventure, every road trip and every warm late night during your best summer ever!

1. Take a breather.

We’ve got a great blog post on how to use scents for self-care and meditation, but if you’re looking to take an even more active approach to add meditation to your daily routine, check these out:

2. Don’t plan too much – inject some spontaneity!

Evoke your best summer ever picnic on the beachEmbrace new experiences! Trying new things helps push us out of our comfort zone, create new memories and shared experiences. When we’re doing something new, we pay closer attention to what’s happening. This means you’re essentially using your new experience to block out all that mental “noise” we always carry around in our heads during daily life. So don’t be scared this summer to try new activities while on vacation (water, sports, dance classes, new foods) Take your living outside the box, be open to new experiences and joy.

Take our Vital scent with you everywhere you go, and let the juicy citrus notes set the mood for summer spontaneity with this DIY perfume:

3. Focus on family and friends

This one might seem obvious, but after spending the rest of the year at work it’s nice to branch back out and connect with your high school friends, mom friends or even relatives. Summer isn’t just about adventure, it’s about memories. Take this time to make some plans with friends you haven’t seen all year. Choose now to reconnect, make new memories and savor your time together.

Meet for a cup of coffee at the local favorite place, meet up at the pool or just hang out at your house. Take time to schedule mini-vacations with your family. Choose a day to stay in bed and binge Netflix with your partner and order a pizza. Binge-watch Game of Thrones, or just choose a romantic movie. Make the people in your life your priority.

4. Enjoy the experience

Summertime dog out of car windowYou assume that going on vacation means you’ll have an amazing time. But does it really? Funny enough, research shows that most people are happier while planning and looking forward to their vacations than they are during or after them.

You heard that right! That means for most of us, the anticipation of your vacation is actually way better than the reality.

Relaxation is an exception to this rule. People who rate their vacations as being “very relaxing” are the ones who are the happiest while on vacation. Only by actually enjoying your relaxation while on vacation, can you use a trip to help feel happier year-round. So the question is, how do you make your vacation relaxing? The answer is mindfulness (and we’ll go more into that later).

5. Start journaling

plant Therapy journalJournaling is not only a great way to remember your summer fun for years to come, but it’s also a great way to make sure you’re really savoring every experience.

Try these three easy ways to start journaling this summer, no matter how crunched for time you are:

  • Bullet journal: Try writing down quick, easily digested notes every day, but don’t limit yourself to a to-do list. Bullet journaling is all about tracking emotions, experiences and making journaling easy for everyone.
  • Sketching: You don’t have to be an artist to get the benefits of creating art. Just sitting down to doodle or sketch out a little scene helps you to remember small details of your summer adventures.
  • Lists: Make lists focused on positivity! Try listing 25 beautiful things that surround you, 10 things you’d love to do by summer’s end, or your top 5 good things that happened that day. This helps you stay focused on and appreciate all the amazing things that happen every day.

To make journaling even more impactful, try this easy way to scent your journal with your own unique cue that it’s time to write, and focus on positive, uplifting thoughts.

6. Make mindfulness a choice

Mindfulness is defined as an awareness of your moment-to-moment experience, without making judgments. Mindfulness helps boost your memory, increases your ability to focus and reduces stress. When you’re in summer vacation mode, mindfulness can be the difference between feeling stressed out and truly enjoying yourself.

Vacations aren’t always relaxing. Like we said before, people experience more joy during the planning and waiting time before their vacation, then when they’re actually on vacation.

Mindfulness gives you permission to truly be on vacation, in your body and your mind. It gives you the clarity to really focus on unique experiences and enjoying a new place. The goal is for your mind to be in the same place as your body so that you’re soaking in and enjoying every moment of your vacations. You’re replacing anxiety with relaxation and joy.

7. Last but not least: Get outside!

Plant Therapy essential oils get outsideDude, the weather is amazing out there. Get outside and enjoy the activities you can only do during the summer months! Get outside, play some sports. Take a hike. Float the river or go to the beach. Soak up some sun!

Look for chances to be present in nature all around you. Notice the smells of fresh-cut grass, flowers, and sun-soaked skin. Go have your best summer ever!

  1. Love these tips. Summer can be a time of conflicting feelings when you’re a working parent. I’ll revisit this as needed.

  2. I just received the evoke summer scents, I love them all! I’m going on vacation in a week and I’m definitely taking them all with me.

  3. I love these ideas. I’ve been feeling really stressed about summer because I have so many things I’ve already committed to, but this will help in the time I have to relax!

  4. The Evoke fragrances have always been so intriguing to me. I love that their is a new line out for summer. I hope I can try it sometime soon.

  5. I am so excited for summer! It’s definitely my favorite time of the year. I like to use the citrus smells as a pick me up. I also like to use things like citronella to help keep the bugs away. I’m very thankful I found Plant Therapy. It’s my goal to own the majority of the oils they sell!!

  6. Exactly what I needed to read right now. I worry too much, overthink too much. I need to be more present and mindful, something I’ve tried before but kept falling back into old patterns. I am excited for the EOs I just purchased and using them to help keep me more grounded and relaxed.

  7. Love “Excite” and “Revere” from the Evoke collection, and have others on my wish list to buy to make cologne for my husband….But I think I may have to spend my $40 reward points on this instead…. the focus on citrus is right up my alley. I love using essential oils for perfume blends.

  8. I love summer and being outside. The smells in nature are amazing. Doing yoga outside on the deck is so peaceful and relaxing! I love the idea of putting scent on a tissue. Essential oils are nature’s spec gift to us!

  9. I’m really bad at stressing over the small details of vacations, plans, etc. It totally takes away from the fun! I’m slowly getting better, I think.

  10. Just taking a walk in this lovely weather in a park is relaxing. I took a walk today and I was telling myself not to rush. It’s fine not to jog… And I got to really “see” more of mother nature. Saw a monitor lizard relaxing on the pathway. It was cool. Saw a tortoise relaxing near the edge of the river.. I am so content now.
