We’ve got everything from fun DIYs to quick and easy additions to your daily routine. And the best part is you can care for your hair naturally. Let’s dive in!
For the Girl on the Go
We get it. Life is busy and crazy and sometimes it’s easier to throw your hair in a ponytail and call it good. But there are a couple quick and easy ways to make sure your hair still stays healthy, shiny and soft.
Boost your shampoo!
This really is one of the easiest things you can do. All you need is your favorite unscented shampoo and a couple of essential oils and you’re good to go! Rosemary is one of the most popular oils when it comes to hair care, and for good reason. It helps stimulate growth, promotes a healthy scalp and combats excess oil. Cedarwood (Atlas or Himalayan) is another fabulous oil for your hair as it helps promote a flake-free scalp. Combine these oils in your shampoo and you’re good to go! For everyday use, stick to a 1% dilution, or 9 drops per ounce. If you wash your hair less often, feel free to bump it up to a 2% dilution or 18 drops. An easy way to experiment is by making mini-batches in travel-size bottles so you can find the combination that’s right for your hair.
Those aren’t the only oils you can use! Feel free to experiment with other great options like Lavender, Pink Grapefruit, Chamomile, Sandalwood, or Carrot Seed.
Spritz it Up!
Now that your shampoo has the added benefits of essential oils, you can add the finishing touches by lightly misting your hair with a hydrosol. Both Rose and Lavender are great for helping condition dry and damaged hair. You can spritz when it’s wet or dry, whatever fits your routine best.

Wow! This blogpost is loaded with great information and links. I can personally attest to how Rosemary and Cedarwood helps with hair issues. Due to health issues my hair was thinning (and I’m sure my stress about it falling out only made it worse). I did an internet search and found the study comparing minoxidil with Rosemary (it was determined that Rosemary was at least as if not more effective than the minoxidil!) and decided to try it. Upon further research I learned about cedarwood. I combined them and hoped for the best. I ‘thought’ it was working (but realized it could just be wishful thinking and my memory not being accurate) but it wasn’t until my hairdresser actually commented on it and asked me what I was doing differently that I realized it actually truly was helping! I was thrilled. I also use my rose hydrosol every day as a face spritz but now I also spray it in my hair. I can’t wait to try the hair mask recipe!
My granddaughters need the de-tangler…guess I’ll be making that this weekend.
Over the counter shampoos are full of chemicals, adding oils doesn’t reduce that, I make my own shampoo, using pure castile soap, baking soda and a favorite oil, inexpensive, goes a long ways.
I am excited to try these new tips! I’m going to add rosemary to my shampoo and try a hydrosol spray in my hair…. probably Lavender. Can’t wait!
Hi everyone! Does anyone have any experience with or recommendations for ways to using oils to decrease the amount of hair FRIZZ? Thank you in advance.
I gave very fine hair that will be limp and flat if I use conditioner too often, and oils in the shampoo will also do the same thing. Do you have any suggestions for this type of hair? I would like to see more growth. Thank you.
Rosemary essential oil really is the best essential oil out there to help stimulate hair growth.
I cannot wait to try to DIYs and add in some oils to my shampoo!! I’ve been needing this blog post for years! Lol.
I love these ideas. I use the hair serum recipe for my itchy scalp. I’m definitely going to try adding them to my shampoo & conditioner!
Thanks for the great info in your blogs!!! They are always so helpful!!
I absolutely Love the DIYs! My three favorites are adding Eos to my shampoo, the salt hair spray and adding a couple of drops to my hairbrush! Magnolia is my favorite for this. Another fantastic idea which I do frequently is pre-conditioning. Put a few drops of carrier oil (your choice) on the ends of your hair before showering or overnight if you like. Your hair will feel amazing, and you’ll discover far less split ends.
