Holiday Traditions and Essential Oils: Kids Edition!

The holidays can be a magical time for everyone, but especially for children. Santa, presents, snow days, Elf on the Shelf, and decorating the tree all make for a special, wonderful time of the year. Adding essential oils to your holiday traditions can make for magical and memorable experiences that your little will cherish for years to come.

Santa’s Village

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a trip to the mall to visit Santa’s Village! Whether or not you opt for the overpriced professional pictures, your child will still remember sitting on Santa’s lap, telling him what they want this year and getting one of those tiny little candy canes. But a trip to a busy mall also means lots of crowds and lots of germs going around. Help your family stay healthy during the holiday season by having a Defender Roll-On nearby. The bright and fruity blend is a great way to support a healthy immune system while also uplifting your spirits.

Movie Night

Holiday movies are a fantastic way for the family to get into the holiday spirit. There’s everything from the classics like A Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman to slightly more recent favorites like Elf and Home Alone. Whatever movie you choose, we have some fun and festive new KidSafe Holiday Blends to go with it! Say hello to our Winter Friends Set. It includes new KidSafe blends for the holiday season, each named for a favorite Christmas character.

Blitzen’s Blend: On Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and Blitzen! Evoke a festive Holiday mood and bring to mind the pitter-patter of reindeer footsteps on the roof with Blitzen’s Blends. Pink Grapefruit, Lemon SD, and Tangerine combine for a light, citrusy scent that uplifts the spirit and lightens fatigue. Juniper Berry and Coriander Seed round out this festive blend that will be just what you need to stay awake all night on Christmas Eve.

Toy Soldier: Be as steadfast as a toy soldier with this sweet, candy-like blend that sets the perfect mood for all your Christmas festivities. Lemon, Orange, and Mandarin Green Essences combined with creamy Vanilla and Copaiba Oleoresin make a sweet, tart, citrusy blend that is both uplifting and cheerful.

‘Twas the night before Christmas… These are words we all know and love. A holiday storytime before bed can be a unique and special moment to share with your children. Adding essential oils can add a special touch to the experience and help tie the memory with that specific aroma. Our Forest Friends Diffuser offers a fun and safe way for your little ones to enjoy essential oils in their rooms. It includes three diffusion settings, a nightlight, interchangeable ears, and soft music to fall asleep to.

To create something special for the holidays, combine one of the Winter Friends blends with its coordinating Forest Friends Headbands! These headbands can be easily printed off at home and colored in by your kiddos. Then they can enjoy an Toy Soldier diffuser while diffusing Toy Soldier. How fun is that!

Sleeping Under the Tree

For kids that love the idea of catching Santa delivering presents on Christmas Eve, sleeping under the tree is a special treat! They get to put out cookies and milk and try their very best to stay awake while they stare at the twinkly lights of the tree.

To help them fall asleep and get a good night’s rest before the day’s festivities, try adding Nighty Night or Sweet Slumber to a diffuser in the living room. Or if you have clay ornaments, you can add a few drops of your sleep blend to help them drift off.

Decorating Cookies

Christmas without cookies? Never! Decorating Christmas cookies and holiday treats are a fun way to get creative, embrace the holiday spirit and indulge in some extra sweets. While your family is setting up everything for the gingerbread houses and sugar cookies, try adding Toy Soldier from our Winter Friends Set to your diffuser. The citrusy sweet candy-like aroma will complement the delightful aromas coming from your kitchen.

  1. Such great suggestions!! Sometimes I need a “jump start” ideas, thank you for the “spark” to generate gift ideas!!

  2. I love that I can use the aloe jellies and make my own hand sanitizer with PT’s awesome oils instead of using harmful sanitizers from the stores that have nureotoxins in them. I feel good about using PT’s products and that I can have a toxic free hime. THANK YOU PT!

  3. Toy Soilder has become my new favourite perfume. The sweet smell took a few days to get used to as i have never purchased sweet blends like it before. Now i love it and hope it stays beyond Christmas.

  4. Got a good head start ordering for Christmas gifts! Can’t wait! Best Hemp CBD oil I’ve tried. Took to Disney World with us, and we all had wonderful nights sleep! Just ordered more!

  5. I am planning to make the defender hand sanitizer with my little one today. We have our favorite Zombie Blood on hand to make this DIY sanitizer.

  6. I absolutely love the kidsafe winter set… Toy Soldier is my favorite… I have a question about the diy hand sanitizer, what can I use in place of the defender?

  7. I love the hand sanitizer recipe. With the extra interaction with family and friends this time of year, germs can spread so easily. I will be using the santizer for sure. And the holiday blends… oh… how much I can’t wait to get mine and diffuse these to get into the holiday spirit!

  8. Fun things to try with the grandkids! And the girls all love essential oils already. (The boys haven’t decided but like the playdoh we made)

  9. It’s easy to get caught up in the health benefits of the individual essential oils and forget the wonders of the smells and blends. Thanks for the reminder! Can’t wait to try some of these!!!

  10. Great family ideas. What a fun idea to also have a certain oil for story time at night. They will always connect wonderful memories to that scent!

  11. Plant therapy are my favorite oils! My dad and I ordered these together and he was so happy because another company we were ordering from was way more expensive and wasn’t any better!!! He has passed now so Plant therapy oils and the diffuser will always be a special memory for me.

  12. I was soooo looking forward to ordering and diffusing some of these until I realized some of the oils may not be good for my “old Lady” puppy to breath in. Sadly, the house is open floor plan and she is my shadow. Not sure how to have “Holiday” smells in the air and still be safe for her.

    1. I understand wanting to enjoy some holiday smells around your pup. Here is a chart with all the Pup & Pony approved oils that you can use to create your own blends. Cardamom and Nutmeg could add some spice to some woodsy or citrus oils. Or you could use Peppermint or Spearmint with Fir Needle to capture some of the fresh and wintery smells. Also, our Candy Cane blend is Pup & Pony approved.

  13. How true that scents help to recall a memory. I recall the smells of vanilla and cinnamon when I was child brings back memories of baking with my mom. Now that she is gone, I bake with my daughter the same recipes my mom and I use to do.

  14. Entire Family LOVES PT oils they are simply the best! Getting ready for winter as well as gift -giving with all your new offerings, thanks.

  15. Oh, we should check out the defender blend! We’ve definitely been living on Immune Boom already this year.. I mixed it with lemongrass eucalyptus though because I am not a fan of the smell.

  16. I can’t wait to make the hand sanitizer! Does it burn at all, especially if little ones rub their eyes soon after applying?

    1. It shouldn’t burn the skin, especially since Defender is diluted to 1% in the Aloe Jelly and it uses only KidSafe oils. But you’ll want to keep your little ones from touching their eyes after applying.

  17. Love the Holidays…hate the weather. Which is why I like that I can diffuse some Germ Fighter during the cold season and have my house still smell like Christmas 🙂

  18. I love the idea of diffusing EO”s during story time before bed to tie a scent to the memory of it. Best idea ever and I will definitely be ordering a blend to try this during this holiday season! Thank you so much for the idea!

  19. Am I the only adult who gets super excited the night before Christmas? I’m going to have to apply this kid friendly tip for myself to have sweet slumber 🙂

  20. Cute Winter Friends headbands! I’m thinking that if I used thick paper to make them I could add a drop of a fun winter oil to be a passive diffuser too!

  21. I just ordered the Winter Friends set and am very excited to get it! The scents sound like wonderful blends that we’ll be able to enjoy all season long.

  22. So many Christmas oils to choose from! I did make the hand sanitizer & I love it!! Defender smells great & I love that it’s kid safe so I can share with my granddaughter! Now I have to choose some Christmas oils!
