There’s nothing more relaxing than lounging around at home, cozying up to a good book or your guilty pleasure rom-com, and treating yourself to some much-needed skincare love. And if there’s a particular skincare powerhouse you should consider adding to your list of must-haves, it’s got to be Calcium Bentonite Clay, mined exclusively from the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Also known as Indian Healing Clay, our newest product can help benefit your skin’s health in a multitude of ways.
Benefits of Bentonite Clay
In our day-to-day routines, our skin is exposed to bacteria and toxins from the outside world. Composed of aged volcanic ash, Plant Therapy’s Calcium Bentonite Clay is made with a high concentration of organic minerals such as silica, calcium, magnesium, sodium, iron, and potassium.
For centuries, Bentonite Clay has been used to help detoxify and heal the skin, by helping draw out dirt and toxins. For those who have oily skin, this is a great skincare product that can help unclog pores. Creating a mask can help further cleanse your skin of impurities (keep reading, we’ll show you the steps on how to do this later).
In addition, using Bentonite Clay can help calm irritated or itchy skin since it holds plenty of natural minerals. Aside from its powerful benefits to the skin, Calcium Bentonite Clay can help with your hair as well. For those who experience an irritated, flaky scalp, using Bentonite Clay in a hair mask can not only help soothe your scalp but also soften and cleanse your hair.
Perfect for DIY Skincare
Whether you use it for your face, on your skin, or for your hair and scalp, there are a few ways you can mix Bentonite Clay to benefit from its powerful properties. Before using it to its full advantage, we recommend testing it on a small patch of your skin to make sure it doesn’t cause any irritation. Because clay masks can be drying, we also recommend using this only one or twice a week, depending on your skin.
First, you can mix 1 part of Calcium Bentonite Clay to 2 parts of water until it forms into a creamy paste. You can also mix the same measurements with apple cider vinegar, hydrosols, or any other beneficial liquids. Apply an even layer to your face, skin, or hair and allow it to dry for 15-20 minutes. Once it has dried, rinse it off with warm water.
Furthermore, add the clay to your bath for optimal benefits. Take 1-2 cups of the Bentonite Clay and mix it with water. Then, add the mixture to your bathwater. Here comes the fun and easy part: diffuse your favorite essential oils, sit back, and soak in your relaxing bath for 30 minutes. After, rinsing off with warm water. Using this once every two weeks can help soothe irritated skin. An important note to mention when mixing your clay is to avoid using metal bowls or utensils as it can diminish the clay’s benefits. Glass, ceramic, wooden, or bamboo tools are ideal for mixing.
Have you tried Calcium Bentonite Clay? If so, what are your favorite ways to use it? Let us know in the comments!
How I am just learning about this now? I have never tried it but plan to put it in my next order!
I’ve had the bentonite clay for a while and only use ACV for my masks, but now that I know I can use my frankincense & rose hydrosol…..I’ll be having a self care Monday!
Bentonite Clay is absolutely the best when used for a facial mask. I’ve tried many other brands and Plant Therapy has the best, most trusted kind that I’ve found.
I have some that I hadn’t used yet. I will now!
What is 1 part measure out to??
One “part” really just means whatever amount that works for your needs (one teaspoon, one tablespoon, one cup, etc.) You would then just need to mix it with two parts, or double the measurements you chose, water or hydrosol.
I make “pit paste” use it on your arm pits to draw out toxins from everyday use of deodorant. mix a few tablespoons of the clay with apple cider vinegar or water and you can also put a few drops of oils in it to make a paste. leave it on until and dries and then rinse off
This clay is a terrific ingredient for DIY toothpaste recipes. I feel confident about the quality ordering from PT.
I use it in my homemade toothpaste .

I haven’t tried it yet
I haven’t tried it but may have to in the near future
This would be so awesome to try. I feel like I need this in my life.
Love the smooth creaminess of Bentonite Clay. I blend mine with Chlorella and Spirulina powders, water, rose hydrasol or colloidal silver, and if I want to polish my face, I add a pinch of very special, collected from the wilds, superfine wind-drift sea-sand! Then I use my botanical oil serum afterwards. Sooo good.
So excited to try this and I’ve heard many many good things about this clay!!! If you research it online you can get the food safe version and take it internally to get rid of toxins! The clay binds to the toxins like heavy metals etc and gets them out. Great clay that you can use in so many ways!!!
Looking forward to using this in a face and hair mask.
I have never tried bentonite clay, but have been considering it both as a mask and in a “detox bath”
I have not tried this but intend to add it to my list.
Just ordered … can’t wait to try
I want to try this!
Would love to try…..maybe a sample can be sent with my order.
I have not tried this mask yet, but I have been working on my skincare regimen for the past several months and can forsee this mask in a future shopping cart. Thanks to Plant Therapy’s blog I have learned about so many great ways to pamper my skin using several DIY’s – oil cleanser, face serum, hydrosol toner! My husband is threatening to buy me a lab coat for Mother’s Day!
Can’t wait to try this.
I would love to try this! I have heard mention of it before, but never took the plunge and purchased it for myself!
Hadn’t thought to use it on the armpits, totally going to try that!
I need to try this!!
I have tried it as a mask and taken it orally in capsules. It absorbs a lot of toxins. I have enjoyed using it a lot. Just be sure that you RESEARCH how much you should take at a time and how often you should take it. Also, don’t leave the mask on your face for TOO LONG. I left it on too long and got some dryness on my skin, but it faded after a couple days with some moisturizer. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS!
I would like to try this, adding it to a bath sounds really nice.
I have not tried this bentonite clay yet, although I have purchased bentonite clay from another source. I’m thinking I might buy this clay from Plant Therapy in the autumn.
I love to do my detox bath with this! I switch up what I use each time, still exploring what works best with my body, since I’m still fairly new to so much of this lifestyle, but this seems to be my first grab when I’m needing the results, not just exploring.
Thanks for providing facts on such a criticized topic, it’s so important that we have the scientific research to support our choices when we live in a society so bought by mainstream culture!
I’ve used this to detox my armpits and it works!
Makes a good natural toothpaste as well.
Great stuff!!
Definitely going to try this next order as it is way past time to mask my face.
I need to get this next order as I love masks and it sounds lovely.
I haven’t tried this clay yet. I sure want too. Using it as a mask to remove toxins sounds amazing. Adding it to my bath with oils sounds wonderful and something I could benefit from.
I do have combination skin, but I might just try this to see how it is on my skin. I like the idea that it has healing properties. So maybe my next order 😉
sounds great!
someone on the SEOR Facebook page mentioned that they do! I’m going to try it,
Has anyone used this to detox their underarms to start using more natural deodorant?
I definitely need to try this!
